County Executive Russell Pry shares treasures of county with area summer interns  at Summit Artspace event

Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry, right, purposefully used the third-floor open meeting area at Summit Artspace to talk with young people holding intern jobs in Summit County this summer . The young professionals meet through an organization called InternEdge. They were engaged in a tour of various Summit County sites when they stopped by Akron's premier community art center. Fiber artist Connie Bloom, left, was in her studio on the third floor at the time. She shared her photos, some thoughts and highlights of Pr y's remarks :

It was really cool meeting Russ again. He probably didn't remember it, but I once introduced myself to him at a neighborhood restaurant and thanked him for Summit Artspace. That was pro bably 201 when I first moved in.  Next thing I know, Russ was waiting to give a talk, pacing outside my s tudio door . He nodded and we talked briefly before he gave a short presentation to the interns.  Russ said he wanted the interns to remember us, meaning Summit Artspace and Summit County. He told them how important it is to make the most of our resources such as the Summit Artspace building itself, currently in its 4th adaptive reuse. He said everyone was surprised to discover "Akron Public Library" carved in marble above the  entry doors when the Summit Artspace painted wooden frieze was removed.  It was pretty clear the interns were impressed by Russ. He also talked about the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Towpath and some of our other cultural assets.

Pry has been supportive of Summit Artspace by providing the building, operational
services to maintain the site and grant funding for cultural projects at Summit Artspace that enhance the quality of life for Summit County residents.

Rubber City Shakespeare Directors' Notes for Richard III and  As You Like It; opening weekend is here!

Dane CT Leasure
Richard III

Directed by Dane CT Leasure
June 26th-July 18th

A Little Bit About The Show...

I am very excited to be directing Richard III for the company. Richard III has always been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays and I knew I wanted to include it in one of first seasons. A tale of ambition and deceit, this play is a slippery slope for anyone who stands in Richard's way. For the production, we have a state of remembrance with costumes having medieval signifiers but a modern flair with hard lines and shapes. The staging utilizes Shakespearean staging conditions such as universal lighting and use of three entrances. In the production Kelly Chaff, our violinist, will be underscoring the production and providing pre-show/ intermission music. I know that you will have a great time!

Chris Bizub
As  Y ou Like It

 Directed by Chris Bizub

July 2nd-July 19th

A Bit About The Show...

For many years, I have wanted to direct a production of As You Like It set in the 1960s.  Even though it was written some time between 1599 and 1600, this tale of political exiles who escape the corrupt lifestyle of the French court to all meet in the Forest of Arden where they will become one with nature and fall in love, has a modern feel. I have always felt that this story had such strong parallels with the  tumultuous 1960s, that I chose to set this production of As You Like It during Woodstock, as that was considered the culmination of the decade.  As You Like It is a celebration of love, nature and music. I know you will absolutely love this production. So make sure that you click on the purchase tickets button below. You don't want to miss your opportunity to experience this timeless story.

Chris Bizub has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from  Baldwin Wallace College and is currently working as Rubber City Shakespeare Company's Marketing Director/Front of House Manger. Some of his recent directing credits include  Play On, Wait Until Dark, The Uninvited, No Sex Please We're British, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged] , and  Almost, Maine . Chris has also performed in productions of  The Importance of Being Earnest (John Worthing),  The Merchant of Venice (Shylock),
As You Like It (Duke Senior) , MacBeth (The Porter),  Hamlet (Player),  A Streetcar Named Desire (Steve Hubble),  ASSASSINS (Sam Byck), and  The Iceman Cometh (Hugo).
