Debby Brown's Hocus Focus
A MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS PROFESSIONALS ON MAXIMIZING THE SUCCESS OF PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOTS WITH TIPS, IDEAS AND PHOTOS.
Hi there!

This month's word is "Healthcare." I know, I know, you've probably heard more than enough discussion about healthcare (aka Obamacare). Except if you're sick. Then you really can't hear enough.

Scroll down to see how the DB&A photographers have interpreted that word. Compassionately, poignantly, with a bit of melancholy and medicine thrown in is the way I would describe their images. See what you think.

Enjoy!

Are You Sick of Healthcare?
Put Washington Politics Aside
Because when you need it, you really need it
I'm one of the lucky ones. When the new healthcare insurance system was put into place last year, I managed to find a plan that was very similar to what I had before, except for one big difference. The monthly premium ended up being about half of what I had been paying. That's right, half.

Okay, I was probably paying too much to begin with, but I know several people who had to pay more, couldn't go to their doctors of long-standing, had to get a much higher deductible, etc., etc. All negative stuff.

Of course, there is the big positive of the new healthcare insurance law, namely that many, many people who didn't have or couldn't get healthcare insurance in the past, can now do so.

No matter how you feel about our healthcare system and the insurance that does or doesn't cover the costs, the following photographs will remind you how great it is to be healthy (something I too often take for granted).

BTW, if you are in charge of a photo shoot requiring a real hospital location and real doctors and patients, my advice to you is: start planning early. Even if you have the written permission of the doctors and patients (not so easy, but absolutely required), the hospital may put up roadblocks. They don't want the photographer and crew even close to the hallways busy with medical traffic.

As for my new insurance plan, it kicked in just after I tripped on a typical, uneven NYC sidewalk, fell and fractured my kneecap. I'm happy to say that everything was covered from the emergency room care right through to the physical therapy sessions. I got a great pair of crutches out of the deal, not to mention a fully healed patella.

Even so, as good as it is, now that I've had chance to really test my insurance, I hope I never have to use it again!

Stay tuned for next month"s word: INDUSTRY
