We are thrilled to have 35 schools signed up for the 2015 PAY DIRT competition. Of the 35 schools signed up, 12 (marked with a *) are new to BEST. We will continue to sign up schools through August with a waiting list once we fill our available slots. We plan to assign the schools to RM BEST or FR BEST in late July.  Please ask any interested schools to contact Jose Lopez at [email protected].

Volunteers Needed Near Term
RM BEST Kit Team and RM BEST Game Field Volunteers, RM BEST Venue Lead Positions, and Volunteers to Help Start a New Hub

RM BEST Monday Kit Team: The Kit Team is counting, testing, and cleaning returned 2014 kits to prepare for 2015 kit activities and labeling Best Buy Foundation grant kits in our new workshop. They meet most Mondays at 999 Vallejo St #2 (Unit 34) in Denver near I-25 and 8th Avenue from 10 AM - 3 PM with a lunch break at a local restaurant. They can always use an extra hand and no experience or specific skill is needed. If interested, please contact Carolyn at  [email protected] for more information.

RM BEST Game Field Builders (July - August): Use BEST-provided drawings to construct and assemble game field pieces. We expect to have final drawings available by early July with construction in July and August. Full assembly of all components and testing must be completed at least two weeks prior to 12 September Kickoff. Multiple separate components permit multiple independent helpers to separately construct their components. Tools needed include the following depending on component: saws to cut plywood, lumber, foam, and PVC; wood sander; paint brushes; drill for screw holes; and screw drills / drivers. Skills needed include: read drawings, construct using tools above, and assemble components with glue (PVC), screws, and hinges. If interested, please contact Carolyn at [email protected] for more information.

RM BEST Venue Lead (June - October): Work with other Rocky Mountain BEST leads and volunteers to establish the venues for the Rocky Mountain BEST late July Teacher / Mentor Institute, September Kickoff event, and October Practice and Game Day events. We estimate the effort to require approximately 4 hours per week. Please contact me at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this position.

NEW BEST Robotics Hub in 2016 (June - December):  We are working with individuals in the Pikes Peak and Central Colorado areas about starting additional Colorado BEST hubs in 2016. Please contact me at [email protected] if you, friends, or family are interested in working with these individuals to establish new BEST hubs in these locations.

Front Range BEST Hub Volunteers (June - October): The new Front Range BEST hub needs volunteers to help their Hub Development in Douglas County. Please contact Tami Kirkland at [email protected] if you, friends, or family are interested in working with this great group bringing another BEST competition to the Metro Denver area.
