A Top-10 List, right from the horses (locals) mouth...

Live Music:
St. Joe, as the locals call it, has a thriving live music scene with several open mic opportunities every week. Years ago, classic rock cover bands mostly took the local stage, but today it's exciting to be home to a growing number of local bands garnering national attention, including Radkey, a local punk band. They've recently been featured on MTV and are currently touring the globe.  Visitors can also catch several more up and comers including Desodean, Eyelit and Scruffy & the Janitors. During spring and summer months, you can enjoy monthly outdoor music events such as Parties on the Parkway and Sounds of Summer at Coleman Hawkins Park on Felix Street Square.

Arts & Culture:

For arts and culture, St. Joseph has much to offer, including the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, St. Joseph Symphony, and numerous performing arts associations. From music festivals to plays to comedy shows, there are always loads of cultural events going on in the city. Check out the schedule of events at the Missouri Theater, which is the regional cultural center for the arts. Other performance arts organizations with entertainment listings can be found here

Cocktail Hour:

For a pre-or-post dinner drink try Foster's Martini Bar. Inside, the smoke-free atmosphere has an extensive drink list and outdoor patio, with table service. Unique art and paintings line the wall and there are often great jazz, rock and blues players on the weekends. If you are looking for a livelier scene, make your way over to Magoon's Famous Delicatessen. Open since 1918, this delicatessen by day, houses local and traveling musicians by night. They have several nights of blues and rock jam sessions each week.  The Hi-Ho, Norty's Bar & Grill &  Kelly's Pub all offer great happy hour deals as well.

This passive park is atop the Missouri River bluffs overlooking the city, and is the perfect location for a picnic lunch.

Historic Museums:

On the educational-fun side, St. Joseph's many museums offer a glimpse into the area's colorful history. The Pony Express Museum, housed inside the original Pikes Peak Stables, makes the history of the famous mail service come alive with interactive displays and even dress-up and pretend areas for the kids. The St. Joseph Fire Museum features several antique fire trucks and other equipment. Also be sure to check out the newest museum, the Walter Cronkite Memorial.  Mr. Cronkite was born in St. Joseph and this memorial located at Missouri Western State University includes several wall displays devoted to all aspects of his life, from his childhood and family to his time at the anchor desk and his passion for NASA's Space Program
