Free Dental Sealant Day

February is National Children's Dental Health Month. To honor children in the Portland metro area, Portland Family Dentistry will offer FREE exams, dental sealants, and fluoride treatment for children ages 7 to 15 years old on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Children will be seen by appointment only, so please call (503) 284-3588 or email to schedule. Children DO NOT need to be a current patient and children DO NOT need insurance to take part in the complimentary sealants. Children with insurance benefits are eligible for the complimentary services and their insurance company will not be billed. Other than age, there are no restrictions or requirements, and there will be no fees associated with treatment on Sealant Day. All treatment is provided by Dr. Travis Agee and the team at Portland Family Dentistry.

What are Dental Sealants?
Sealants are thin layers of resin that are placed on the pits, fissures, and grooves of molars to prevent decay on these surfaces.
The majority of decay on back teeth starts in the grooves and pits of chewing surfaces, especially during the first few years after their eruption. Sealing these surfaces with composite resins prevents this kind of decay.
Sealants are one of the most effective methods of preventing decay on the surfaces where they are placed. Although it is still a possibility that decay may develop on surfaces in between teeth, sealants significantly reduce the overall chance of having cavities.
