Gov. Pawlenty for Romney - Stays on Message
NRAAC Nat'l Chair Dr. Jean Howard-Hill and Governor Tim Pawlenty
In Chattanooga, Tennessee this weekend for a Pre-Super Tuesday breakfast, the National Republican African American Caucus applauds former Governor Tim Pawlenty for keeping Gov. Mitt Romney on message.
"To hear Pawlenty's advance speech stay on message was not only refreshing, but was the right message to send coming into the Tennessee presidential primary."
From the perspective of one who has taught Political Science at the University at Chattanooga, Howard-Hill says that each candidate has to understand that they cannot win elections if they veer off track from the real message that Americans want to hear.
"We have to hit hard - focusing on policy and not just political one-liners and spins. When people are feeling the impact of unemployment, underemployment, failing businesses, questions about the future of social security and other economic related issues, they just don't want to hear all the other rhetoric. Few are concerned about who is the blame - most believe both parties have had their share and a hand in it. What they want is a positive message - one that looks to the future and offers hope and solutions that really work. "
"Presidential candidates have to present a plan - an economic plan that moves the country from deficit to surplus, high unemployment to employment and the suring up of opportunities to obtain a piece of the American pie. When they go off message and get too entrenched in other messages that have nothing to do with the main issue of the hour which is the economy, they tread waters much too murky with differences of opinions to stay afloat."
She says, "This morning I saw a very personable Pawlenty who articulated Romney's message in such a way that it was on point and encouraged support.
We also look forward to hearing other presidential candidates do the same, and I am sure they will. To all of them, we wish the best."
On March 10, she will be offering the opening prayer for a sell-out event of the Cape Girardeau County Lincoln Day, where Senator Rick Santorum will be speaking.

Both organizations began in 1987 and after the death of Mr. Hill in 1991; they were combined in 1999 to form the National Republican African American Caucus.
