Come to KYL as we prepare to celebrate the time when darkness rules—Winter Solstice! This is the time of year the ancients considered the ‘gateway to God.’ The gods of the ancient Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks were all born at this, the darkest time of the year--to bring light!
Let's use the darkness to pause, to go within, to recognize the divinity we carry inside and continue to bring it forward in our day-to-day lives. In the midst of the darkness you’ll experience the healing sounds of three beautiful Paiste gongs played by Shakta Kaur, Hari Dev Singh and Saibhung Singh. (Your mind will have no defense to the gongs after 90 seconds!)
After the gongs we chant a beautiful mantra meditation to
see and feel the light of consciousness as it manifests and
pulses through all of creation. Come expand beyond your
imaginings with ‘light’ Kundalini Yoga, a triple gong experience
and a mantra meditation especially designed to illuminate the
divine light within!

Join us for a fun, inspiring and conscious evening of Kundalini Yoga, meditation, gonging, chanting and community at Kundalini Yoga in the Loop’s (KYL) 8th Annual ‘Yogic New Year’s Eve’ celebration! Held in the historic Fine Arts Building’s (FAB), yogis from the city and suburbs will gather once again to enjoy a perfect view of both Lake Michigan and the midnight fireworks off of Navy Pier. Plus, delicious potluck vegetarian food and drink will be served in an alcohol and tobacco free environment.
The evening includes: 7:30 pm – Doors Open 8:00 pm – Yoga, Meditation and Double Gong with Shakta Kaur 9:30 pm – Vegetarian Potluck Dinner

weekend of our amazing journey of ‘The Stages of Meditation: An Expedition towards Realization’ with the Kundalini Research Institute’s (KRI) Director of Training, Gurucharan Singh Khalsa, Ph.D. Gurucharan Singh learned these stages from our teacher and Master of Kundalini Yoga, Yogi Bhajan. Gurucharan then developed the workshops for this very special deep meditation series.
‘Express the Self’ is our journey in January. Come traverse the stages of Rasa, Delight, Politeness, Humility, Elevation, Graceful Enlightenment and finally, ‘Express and Be Your Self.’ Each of these stages systematically confronts your mind’s patterns and limitations, awakens a part of you and develops new skills to clear your way towards realization.
This course is for anyone who wants to enhance the joy of their meditation experience.*
Anyone may participate. Meditators from all traditions are invited;
there are no pre-requisites. (Chairs are available for those not comfortable sitting on the floor for long periods of time.)

New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is
a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the
next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."
Waxing Moon
... is the time between the New Moon and the day before the Full
Moon. During this time the energy of the body moves into your higher
centers (chakras). This is the time to bring new things, new people
or new relationships into your life or to accelerate the progress
of your special projects.
11 Days After
New Moon
Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are in balance.
The glandular system readjusts itself on this day. Your metabolism
is changing, so if you eat very lightly (green foods) or if you
live just on water and lemon today, your health will be perfect.
Eat very lightly during the day. Eat only one meal and drink lemon
and water the rest of the day.
Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest
energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum,
so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your
energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this
day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink
cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought
to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down
so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it,
you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper,
a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous
causing side effect.)
Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New
Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations
from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought
of as the best time to start a new project.
