17 days is a long time for me to be separated from my family but they are home now. YEAH!
A day of cleaning before they arrived to make sure dirt and dust were gone (my wife's asthma kicked up while she was abroad).
I picked them up at the airport and after the initial excitement, they were both dog tired after flying from Manchester, UK to Atlanta and then to Charlotte. Both dozed in the car and once we got home, my son crawled into bed . . . but not before jumping up and down over getting his new iPad 2 as a present!

This is the 10th anniversary of my first blogging effort about the job market. Although I no longer have a copy of that original entry, I remember vividly how I agonized over writing that I sensed that the country was coming out of the economic slowdown that had started in February of that year and that employers were back hiring again.

Background Checks:
| | | They Aren't Just Checking References
For the longest time, employers would do simple background checks. They have a potential employee complete a job application where they were asked for three professional references. Before the employee was hired, the three would receive a telephone call and tell the potential employer that the job applicant was a wonderful individual who would do incredible things for them, just as they had done before.
