DO DAVID WEPRIN AND JOE LIEBERMAN STILL DISAGREE ON THE
WORLD TRADE CENTER MOSQUE?
Lieberman: "Somebody Ought To Put The Brakes On It." - 8-3-10
Weprin: "I Support The Right Of The Mosque To Build."-Weprin 9-2-10
New York-July 28...The campaign of businessman Bob Turner (R), a candidate for Congress in New York's 9th Congressional District, today asked candidate and career politician David Weprin (D-WFP) to explain his support of the World Trade Center Mosque. Mr. Weprin will be holding a news conference in Washington today with U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman (CT) who voiced strong opposition to the Mosque plan in August 2010. In September 2010, in a televised debate, Mr. Weprin clearly stated: I support the right of the [World Trade Center] Mosque to build."
"David Weprin supported construction of a mosque just steps from the World Trade Center site, while Senator Lieberman vocally opposed it. We are curious to know what each of their positions are today," said Turner campaign spokesman William O'Reilly. "Is it appropriate for a mosque to be built in the shadow of the World Trade Center? It is a legitimate question and the public has a right to know their respective answers."
Bob Turner has clearly stated that he opposes a mosque being built so close to the site of the 9-11 attacks.
Mr. Turner is running in a special election for the seat vacated by former Congressman Anthony Weiner (D). Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch (D) endorsed Turner's candidacy this week because of Turner's strong support of Israel -- and to send a message to the Obama Administration that its treatment of Israel is intolerable.
Mr. Turner yesterday demanded that the Obama Administration stop paying the salaries of Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons. Mr. Weprin has remained silent on the issue.
