July 26th District 9 Community Advisory Meeting - Next Tuesday, 7pm

Please join me and your neighbors on **Tuesday, July 26th from 7-9:30pm at the Baden Volunteer Fire Department Bldg, 16608 Brandywine Road, Brandywine, MD** for our next monthly community advisory meeting. Topics will include: property standards and vacant homes; shutting down illegal businesses; and the Western Branch Transfer Station. Also, a presentation from Park and Planning's Rural Villages Study will be featured. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, July 26 in Baden. This is an opportunity for me and my staff to hear from you directly and share with you the latest information about the County Government's agenda.  Please RSVP below!

Interested in volunteering in our District? I have the perfect opportunity where you can give back! It is District 9 Service Corps. If you want to help with our upcoming Seniors & Veterans Summit, District 9 Technology (STEM) Summit for youth, monthly community advisory meetings, assist domestic violence survivors at Still I Rise, Inc., or you would like to volunteer with the District 9 Office, please fill out the District 9 Service Corps Volunteer Application and submit it to the District 9 Office (info below).

Become a Leadership Intern

 

Are you a youth interested in becoming a Leadership Intern? The District 9 Office is offering an unpaid Leadership Intern Program for youth ages 14 to 23. For applicants age 17 or under will need permission of at least one parent or legal guardian. This is a great opportunity to learn the political system and prepare you for public service. If you are interested in our political system, please fill out the District 9 Service Corps "Leadership Intern" Application and return it to the District 9 Office.

DISTRICT 9 RURAL COMMUNITIES ADVISORY COUNCIL ("RCAC")

 

I'm pleased to announce, as a part of the District 9 Service Initiative, the creation of a District 9 Rural Communities Advisory Council ("RCAC") that will consist of District 9 residents who live in or near the rural tier and have a keen interest and experience in helping address challenges and opportunities in our rural communities. The RCAC will address and make recommendations to the District 9 office on issues like new agri-businesses, farming, growth & development, environmental protection, transportation, and much, much more. This will be a diverse, fifteen (15) member appointed committee (volunteer) that meets every other month, with select sub-committees meeting more often.  

 

Letter of Interest or Resume

If you are interested in serving on the RCAC and you live in or near the rural tier in District 9, please send me either:

-a signed letter of interest describing your reasons for wanting to serve on the RCAC and your background in dealing with issues connected to our rural communities; or

-a resume detailing your background in dealing with issues connected to our rural communities.

You can also send any additional information that you think would be relevant for me to consider.

Please join me and your neighbors on Sunday, August 7th (rain date August 14th) at Cosca Regional park, 11000 Thrift Road, Clinton, MD 20735 for our 1st annual District 9 Family & Friends Day.   Please save the date and join us for fun, food, and valuable information.  Bring the children and enjoy the afternoon with us.

DHCD Mortgage Assistance Meeting in Prince George's County

On Saturday, July 23, the State Dept. of Housing & Community Development (DHCD) will offer a free class to homeowners in need of mortgage assistance called Mortgage Options to Consider. At this class, homeowners will learn how to access programs like the Emergency Homeowner Loan Program (EHLP) that may help them save them from foreclosure.
