On Saturday, October 15th The United Way of Perth-Huron, in partnership with Project Sponsor The Stop Community Food Centre, invites you to attend a very special fundraiser performance and reception in support of The Local Community Food Centre at the Stratford Festival's Avon Theatre. The Local Community Food Centre involves the creation of "A Place For Food" in Stratford, where the community will be invited to come together to access, grow, prepare, share and advocate for good food. Fittingly, the Stratford Festival's celebrated 2011 production of The Grapes of Wrath evokes many of the same issues this project challenges - hunger, poverty, and inequality - on both historical and contemporary levels.
A portion of the proceeds from the specially-priced ticket sales for the October 15th 2pm matinee performance of The Grapes of Wrath will be donated to The Local Community Food Centre (please cite Promo Code 40133 when ordering to receive special fundraiser price). Immediately following that performance a ticketed reception will take place in the Avon Theatre's upstairs Chalmers Lounge, with all reception ticket sale proceeds going towards The Local Community Food Centre (please note reception tickets are being sold separately from performance tickets and includes all food, wine, etc.). Reception features food donated by some of Stratford's best restaurants including Simple Fish and Chips, Bijou Restaurant, The Screaming Avocado Caf, County Food Co., and Backstage Bar & Grill, with wine donated by Pelee Island, beer from Stratford Brewing Company, dessert by Nourish Whole Food Nutrition, and coffee by Revel Caffe. An outstanding "Freezer Full o' Food" raffle prize donated by Turnbull & Stewart, Slow Food Perth County, and Simple Fish and Chips will be drawn at the end of the reception.
