Memorial services and procession for Border Patrol Agents

Eduardo Rojas Jr. and Hector Clark will be honored at the Yuma Civic Center, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive, at 1 p.m. The memorial services will be followed by a law enforcement procession expected to begin around 3 p.m. and travelling north on Avenue A from the Civic Center to 16th Street, where it will proceed east to 1st Avenue and conclude at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. The procession is expected to last about an hour (approximately 3-4 p.m.) and is likely to cause delays.

Traffic restrictions and road closures will affect the following major Yuma roadways:

         Avenue A from 40th Street to north of 16th Street;

         The intersections of Avenue A with 32nd Street, 24th Street and 16th Street;

         The intersection of 16th Street and 4th Avenue;

         1st Avenue from 13th Street to 16th Street.

These closures are required to move procession traffic from the Civic Center to Desert Lawn.

Residents traveling east or west expecting to cross Avenue A are asked to please take 8th Street, Giss Parkway, 1st Street, or County 14th Street from 11 a.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m.

5th Avenue utilities construction, 8th Street to 16th Street

A contractor for the City of Yuma is installing a 12-inch water line, make minor sanitary sewer modifications and repave 5th Avenue between 8th Street and 16th Street. Two-way traffic will be maintained, as will business access. Through traffic is advised to use 4th Avenue.

One-way traffic is all that's allowed on 5th Avenue between 12th Street and 10th Street - however the new pavement is almost fully open between just south of 9th Street and 8th Street. Currently motorists can't drive between 5th and 4th Avenues on 10th Street or 11th Street, though those sections may reopen within approximately one week.

32nd Street and Avenue 6E - lane and speed limit reduction

Due to construction activities at the site of the new traffic signal installation at Avenue 6E and 32nd Street, the speed limit on 32nd Street has been temporarily reduced from 55 mph to 35 mph through the work zone area. There will be lane reductions on eastbound 32nd Street in this vicinity through May 27. The speed reduction will run through the duration of this construction phase of this project, which consists of a contractor for the City of Yuma installing a traffic signal and making other modifications at that intersection.

8th Street and 14th Avenue

Installation of the traffic signals at 8th Street and 14th Avenue will continue. Temporary lane restrictions may occur. Motorists should use caution and obey traffic control devices through this area.

Crack Seal and asphalt maintenance this coming week

City asphalt maintenance crews will conduct operations the week of May 23-27 on Avenue B from 8th Street to 16th Street; in the Hacienda Estates subdivision; and in the Ocotillo 5 and 4B subdivisions.

ADOT repaving of Interstate 8, state line to Fortuna Road

The Arizona Department of Transportation is repaving Interstate 8 from the Arizona/California state line to Fortuna Road, along with other enhancements including new guardrails, improved drainage, and improvements to all bridges and shoulders. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction in the affected zones and speed limit will be reduced. The project is scheduled to be completed this summer.

2nd Avenue closed north of 1st Street

2nd Avenue is expected to be closed north of 1st Street until sometime in June due to the multi-use pathway extension project.
