Do you have friends and family who still don't get it?

Does your child's teacher think "Oh, he doesn't mind..." when 20 kids celebrate birthdays with cupcakes throughout the year and your son is excluded?

Does your husband think it's "no big deal" if he forgets the epi-pen or to read the ingredient label?

Let's face it, if the whole world really understood food allergies like we do, our lives would be so much easier.

Imagine if there was a simple way to educate your circle of friends and family.

Parents have told me that they wish there was a "rule book" to help others learn how to care for their allergic children's health and their hearts.

 booksThe Rule Book is Here!

I have created an ebook and a teleseminar class where you'll learn the most effective ways to teach others how to care for your food allergic child.  You'll also learn how to show others the emotional toll and how simple actions on their parts can improve the quality of life for our little guys and girls!

My new ebook, 10 Things Children with Food Allergies Want You to Know, is based on my most popular download and was written specifically for other caregivers.  After you recieve it in January, you may print as many copies as you like to share with teachers, friends, relatives, babysitters, grandparents, and more.

"10 Things Children with Food Allergies Want You to Know" will teach others:

  • How a child's quality of life is affected when he/she is excluded and what you can do about it.
  • Easy ways to make family gatherings, parties and celebrations more inclusive.
  • Why Mom and Dad need to present a "united front" and a consistent message to the child.
  • Why teacher's should not assume that they're doing an adequate job managing food allergies simply because they haven't had an anaphylactic reaction in their classroom.
  • Lunchroom and classroom options other than the "safe snack box" or the "peanut free table"
  • And much more.

During my teleseminar call, you will learn:

  • How to grow your backbone so that you can ask for what you need!
  • The essential form of communication when dealing with schools.      (Hint: it actually works with husbands too!)
  • Why mothers are dismissed if they display too much of this emotion.
  • How to know if you are going too far or not far enough in protecting your child.
  • When to give up and when you should keep trying with those who don't "get it"
  • The three most important characteristics of parenting children and how you can master them.
  • And more.

Gina and Daniel

I'm Gina Clowes, Director of AllergyMoms.com.  Ten years ago, my son Daniel was diagnosed with over a dozen food allergies. Since then, he's had more reactions than I can count, and numerous trips to the emergency room. I've injected my son with the Epi-Pen and ridden in the back of an ambulance with him. This was certainly not the life I had ever envisioned for him.

After my son's diagnosis, all I could think about was keeping him completely safe.  I fought tooth and nail with my own family, my in-laws, and my friends in an effort to protect my son, but the way I went about it was all wrong. They felt hurt and angry and were not exactly open to hearing what I had to say. For awhile, I wanted to give up but I knew their had to be a better way.

As I started working in the allergy world, I watched how successful moms advocated for their children. I noticed their demeanor, the words they used, even the resources they shared. Later, as a professional coach, I learned how to manage my own stress level so that others could hear my message and not just react to my anxiety.

Fast forward a few years and I have completely changed my approach.

I remember being nervous for my son's first Section 504 eligibility meeting for school. We didn't agree on everything and there were a few times when feathers were ruffled. But there was always respect and communication on both sides.

The end result of that cooperative (but not wimpy) spirit, is that those meetings turned teachers, nurses and administrators into friends!  Although my son no longer attends that school, imagine my delight when the principal called me recently just to check in to see how we all were doing.

I learned a different way and it made all the difference. You can have this too!

It was just what I needed--someone to talk to and point me in the right direction. I've got more leg work to do but feel that I'll be calm and ready when Lukas starts school. Thanks so much for the great advice yesterday.
