Spring Fog Seal program kicks off Tuesday

The City will begin applying fog seal to various streets starting Tuesday. Fog seal is a fresh oil spray used to extend life of street pavement 3 to 5 years. From Feb. 22-24, crews will be working in the Victoria Meadows and Tierra Kino subdivisions, working typically on one-half of each affected roadway on one day and the other half the next day. Lane closures and/or restrictions will be in effect in work zones. Residents of these areas are asked to provide their cooperation during the days their streets are being sealed; crews will do their best to keep inconveniences to a minimum.

Avenue 3E and 24th Street

As the final phase of this project is under way, traffic has been detoured away from the 24th Street and Avenue 3E intersection. No turn movements will be allowed at that intersection for the remaining 4 weeks of this project. The detour is Lakin Avenue between 24th Street and Palo Verde, then Palo Verde to 3E. The intersection of 3E with Palo Verde Street is once again a temporary 3-way stop, with turns permitted in all directions. There will be no impact to those going north or south on 3E between I-8 and 32nd Street.

Multi-Use Pathway closure, 16th to 24th streets

The City has learned that Yuma County Water Users will conduct dredging operations along the East Main Canal from 24th Street north to 16th Street. The work will consist of digging unwanted silt form the canal and placing it along the bike path to dry and then be removed. The canal road and multi-use path from 24th Street going north to 16th Street have been closed and the project is estimated to continue through Feb. 28. Following that, similar work will progress north on the bike path from 16th Street to 8th Street.

City of Yuma asphalt maintenance, week of Feb. 22

City street crews will conduct maintenance and repair work in the following locations Feb. 22-24. Motorists should expect lane closures or restrictions in work zones.

  • Pacific Avenue from 24th Street to 32nd Street (crack sealing and grinding as needed)
  • 1st Street from Avenue A to Avenue B (crack sealing)
  • Mesa Heights area (grinding as needed)
  • 8th Avenue from 16th Street to 24th Street (grinding)

40th Street Water Transmission Line

With more work on 40th Street at Avenue 3E expected in the middle of next week, the right northbound lane of Avenue 3E will be closed from approximately 42nd Street to 40th Street. Right turns from northbound 3E to eastbound 40th Street will be possible for vehicles but not recommended for large truck traffic.

Water Transmission Line, 12th to 14th streets between 8th and 9th avenues

A contractor working for the City is constructing a main water transmission line in the alley between 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue, from 12th Street to 14th Street. Alley access is currently closed. During specific phases of this project, closures will take place on 13th Street and 14th Street, and lane restrictions or narrowing will be likely at times on 12th Street at the intersection with this alley.

Qwest repair work, Avenue B at 3rd St.;  8th St. at May; 3rd St. at 9th Ave.

Qwest will conduct emergency repair work in the following areas next week, requiring lane restrictions:

            3rd Street and Avenue B

            3rd Street and 9th Avenue

8th Street westbound at May Avenue

UPCOMING

32nd Street and Avenue 6E

A contractor for the City of Yuma will install a traffic signal and other modifications at the intersection of 32nd Street and Avenue 6E.
