Dear  ,

To advance our goal of reducing energy use in Needham homes, Green Needham has created a new team, the Home Energy Savings Team. This team will build on our success with the NStar Community Home Energy Challenge, during which we increased the number of homeowners participating in Mass Save programs to reduce energy use. The team will continue our collaboration with Next Step Living, our partner in delivering the no-cost energy assessments and follow-up savings measures available through the Mass Save program.

The no-cost energy assessment is the gateway to many other energy savings opportunities for homeowners. The Home Energy Savings Team will build on Green Needham's past success of 500 home energy assessments performed, and has set a goal of 1,000 completed assessments.  Read more ...

Solar Committee Begins its Work

The town Solar Committee has begun to investigate options for installing solar at municipal facilities in Needham. The committee is considering the issues related to installing solar at the RTS and also on the rooftops of some municipal buildings. In the early stages of their work, the 7 member group, plus the town representatives Ann Dorfman and Hank Haff, are looking at what other towns have done and how they made their choices. They are also interested in learning more about issues such as SRECs, (Mass. Solar Renewable Energy Credits), net-metering and financing options.

The committee plans to meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 7-8:30pm at Town Hall.

Solar 101 Workshop - Wed. March 20th 7:00-9:00 pm

Have you wondered if solar is right for your house? If so, join us for Green Needham's Solar 101, an introduction and guide to residential solar energy for homeowners. We will explain the technology and terminology of solar PV (photovoltaic) and solar thermal systems, the criteria homeowners should consider before proceeding, and acquisition and financing options (lease versus purchase). We will also cover the questions that homeowners should ask of installers, and tips from Needham residents who have been through the process. Following the presentation, several Needham homeowners and their installers will be available for questions and consultation.  Read more ...

Sincerely,
