Greetings!

I trust that God has blessed you with His holy and precious presence this new year as you lift your voice to Him. Remember, in God's amazing love, He sent His beloved Son Jesus to dwell among us and to die so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness, being healed by His wounds (1 Peter 2:24).

Welcome to the first email version of my monthly newsletter! To better steward the resources God provides me with, I will only send an electronic newsletter update each month to save on printing and postage costs. I will still prepare a published PDF and hard copy newsletter, but I will send it only three times per year to correspond with EMI's project seasons (winter/spring, summer, fall).

Waiting on the Lord for West Africa

While I do not have plans to travel back to West Africa in the upcoming EMI winter/spring project season, I invite you to join me in praying for the people and upcoming projects in this region. We have potential projects in Ghana and Liberia that will likely occur this summer. I will let you know more as I learn more about these projects and associated ministries.

I look forward to seeing God raise up a team with hearts to serve long-term in the West Africa region as He leads me in preparing to plant EMI where there is no EMI. I am particularly excited about helping mobilize the design professional communities that I have encountered in Nigeria and Ghana, but a West Africa office will help us partner to serve more of the physically poorest people in this region where the truth of the gospel in Jesus is also vitally needed.

Please remember to pray for the country of Ivory Coast (Cote D'Ivoire), as the incumbent president refuses to cede power to his opponent who is the recognized legitimate winner of November elections. Pray for a peaceful transition of power and that the Lord uses this crisis to turn hearts to Himself through Jesus.

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive. I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together, that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Isaiah 41:17-20

Lives Touched at Intern Orientation
Winter/Spring Interns
Hike with the Winter/Spring Interns
In the words of one of the interns serving with EMI this semester, "God is clearly a master of design. He is constantly at work to use us as instruments to glorify himself and redeem all creation." I praise God for the opportunity to join this season's interns as they shared testimonies, worshiped the Lord, and went hiking. Reflecting on orientation, an intern preparing for a project in Niger writes, "God was here, I felt Him...To say I will forever be changed would be an understatement." Praise the Lord for ministering to the body He brought together to be sent out to share Jesus through design and by His masterful design!
Financial Need Update
Thanks again and again to all of you who have committed to partner financially as the Lord has led you! I am constantly amazed at His provision as I live in this privileged place of depending on Him. As we begin a new year, I would like to challenge all of you to consider how you are stewarding the resources that God has entrusted you with. In Christ, as His ambassadors, we are called to live differently from the world (Rom. 12:2). This includes finances, which we steward for God. Will you take some time to seek the Lord regarding where you should be investing His money?

If the Lord leads you to increase your giving toward building His kingdom, I invite you to partner in the work He has called me to. Specifically, I am about $300 per month below full funding due to a few contribution changes as this new year begins. Thank you for lifting this need before our Father so that He will be glorified as He faithfully provides!

Please contact me or see the "Get Involved" section to the right if you would like to get involved financially as a ministry partner.
Grace and Peace in Jesus,

"Your hunger is never satisfied..."
Offering hope to the world of the poor
"...your thirst is never quenched; you can never sleep until you are no longer tired," says a voice of the poor in Senegal, West Africa. A part of our annual Colorado Springs staff week was discussing how we can best help the poor around the world without causing harmful aftereffects. As we seek the Lord and consider ministry partnerships to serve the poor, please pray with me that God's Spirit leads us in wisdom and revelation, especially so that more who live in poverty experience Jesus as their spiritual Bread of Life and thirst quencher.
Jesus [says] to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." (John 6:35)
