Early Morning Sadhana

Sunday, January 30 - 4:00 to 6:30 am

Kundalini Yoga in the Loop (KYL)
410 S. Michigan Avenue, Suite 501
4:00 am – Japji (meditative prayer)
4:25 am – Kundalini Yoga
5:10 am – Aquarian Sadhana Mantras*
6:20 am – Hukam** and the Long Time Sunshine Song
6:30 am – Breakfast at Shakta Kaur and Hari Dev Singh’s condominium.

Once each month we offer the experience of early morning sadhana at KYL. We begin at 4:00 am when the rays of the sun are hitting the earth at a 60 degree angle. Why get up at this time? Because this is the time when all of the great spiritual teachers appear to bless, elevate and transform each one of us.

The doors*** to the Fine Arts Building (FAB) open at 3:30 am. Please time your arrival for 3:45 am. We begin sadhana at 4:00 am. The doors to the FAB are locked again at 4:15 am.

* Yogi Bhajan gave a specific sequence of mantras on June 21, 2992, with instructions to use them for morning sadhana in this particular order for 21 years. The order of the mantras is 1) Long Ek Ong Kar, 2) Wah Yantee, Kah Yantee, 3) the Mul Mantra, 4) Sat Siree, Siree Akal, 5) Rakhe Rakhanahaar, 6) Wahe Guru Wahe Jio and 7) the Guru Ram Das chant.

** A ‘hukam’ is the ‘divine order’ or quote of the day. Sadhana (pronounced ‘sod nuh’) is, literally, ‘spiritual discipline;’ the early morning daily spiritual practice.

*** Use the North end doors (on the right as you face the building) to enter - within that group of doors, only the door furthest left will be open.

Yoga Survey
Study of Yoga's Impact on Wellbeing

University of Connecticut

You are invited to participate in the 2011 University of Connecticut Study of Yoga Impacts on Wellbeing. This is an on-line survey created by University of Connecticut faculty member Crystal Park, Ph.D. and another researcher, Elena Besedin, Ph.D., who is also a yoga teacher. The survey takes 20-25 minutes to complete, so, please allow ample time to record your answers. All responses are anonymous.

Once all of the results are in and have been tabulated, the researchers will share the results with us. It is always important for those practicing Kundalini Yoga to participate in surveys of this type. So, we hope you will take the time to do so! Healing Power of ‘Prosperity’ Gong & Mantra
with Shakta Kaur, Hari Dev,
and Special Guest
Hari Simran Singh, D.C.

Friday, February 4
6:30 pm to 7:45 pm
($15 in advance)
Bring a friend and join us Friday night for one of our popular monthly sessions of triple gong and mantra! Joining us for this special session is Hari Simran Singh Khalsa, D.C., a gong enthusiast who’s gong CDs are two of our most popular at KYL. For February we’ve chosen another mantra for prosperity so you may enjoy all the abundance that you deserve!

As always, we begin every ‘Healing Power of Gong & Mantra’ session with light Kundalini Yoga to prepare the body for what’s to come (the yoga is appropriate for all levels). Then we move into deep relaxation with not one, but THREE beautiful Paiste symphonic gongs. Your mind will have no defense to the gong after 90 seconds!

After the gong we use sound (mantra) to remind us that the entire universe was built on sound, on vibration. And, as we vibrate a particular combination of sounds, we are able to tune into a different level of intelligence, or, consciousness.

So, Click Here to pre-register and join us for the deep vibrational healing of gong and mantra on Friday.

 Are you ready for a change in 2011?
 Do you have some less-than-positive habits you would like to break?
 Is there some unfinished business—whether emotional, mental, physical or spiritual—that could use a gentle push towards completion?
If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions then join Shakta for a ‘free’ conference call to learn a powerful yogic tool that can clear unfinished patterns from your past and help you achieve a higher level of understanding about yourself and the world around you.

The Kundalini Meditation that Shakta will share is one that many practice together 40 days prior to the beginning of KYL’s Teacher Training courses. This meditation uses the syllables Sa Ta Na Ma:
Sa = Infinity, cosmos, beginning
Ta = Life, existence
Na = Death
Ma = Rebirth.
Sa Ta Na Ma is, quite literally, the cycle of creation. From the Infinite comes life and individual existence. From life comes death or change. From death comes the rebirth of consciousness to the joy of the Infinite through which compassion leads back to life.

Shakta will also discuss details and answer questions regarding the journey of personal growth and transformation that is called Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training. Sat Nam Rasayan is the healing modality derived from the Kundalini Yoga tradition and literally means ‘deep relaxation in the true identity.’ It is an ancient healing art. Sat Nam Rasayan works on a subtle level through the projective meditative mind. It allows the healer to assess and balance the five elements (ether, air, fire, water and earth) and the pranic body.*

For 30 years Hari Simran Singh has investigated the philosophy and art of personal health and healing. As a student of Yogi Bhajan’s he has studied both Kundalini Yoga and Sat Nam Rasayan and uses them both in his private practice as a chiropractor and as a faculty member of Life Chiropractic College West in California.

A one-on-one Sat Nam Rasayan appointment with Hari Simran Singh Khalsa is a cozy yet inspiring experience. A typical session involves the client lying down near the practitioner. The practitioner may (or may not) place his fingers on your wrist or arm. The client breathes deeply and completely with closed eyelids as the practitioner becomes aware of the sensitive space and, ultimately, the Sacred Space that surrounds you. After a period of time the practitioner will ask you to sit up and he will share what he has learned along with his recommendations. A one-on-one Sat Nam Rasayan session is suggested for anyone interested in deeply learning about themselves and/or their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing capacity.

*The Pranic Body is the eighth body in yogic anatomy. The Pranic Body continually brings the life force energy into your system through your breath. If your eighth body is weak, you may have constant low-level anxiety or fatigue. Yogis believe that all disease starts with an imbalance in the Pranic Body hence its importance in Sat Nam Rasayan healing.

Prayers to the Golden Temple

Bring Your Prayers to KYL...

Shakta and Hari Dev will deliver them to the Golden Temple!
“When you pray you become an identity who is asking for help. You are asking the Infinite to come through for the finite. Prayer is powerful because prayer brings the entire Infinite with you.” -- Yogi Bhajan
On each of their past trips to India, Shakta and Hari Dev have hand-carried prayers to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. As they prepare to travel to India this year, Shakta and Hari Dev again are offering to bring your prayers to the beautiful temple known as Harimandir Sahib.* There the granthi** graciously prays over our bundle of prayers. Manifestation of prayers brought to the Golden Temple is common as one student of KYL’s can attest: “Shakta, I don’t know what happened when you brought my prayers to the Golden Temple, but everything I wrote has come to be. It is miraculous, wonderful and I now appreciate the power of my own prayer.”

Along with your prayer it is customary to make a monetary donation when visiting the Golden Temple. Please put your prayer in one envelope and your monetary donation (cash or check) in a second envelope. Bring both your envelopes to KYL and leave them in our special bowl. If you visit when class is not in session simply slip your two envelopes (one for prayers and a separate one for donations) through the mail slot in the door of Suite 514. (If you must mail your prayer and contribution, do so in order that they are received on or before Tuesday, Feb. 1. Again, two envelopes—one for your prayer(s) and a second one for your donation.)

*Harimander Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple, is the most sacred Sikh temple in the world, located in Amritsar, India. It was founded by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru. Constructed of marble and gold, it is surrounded by a pool of healing water. It is said that at least once in your life you are to have ‘a sight, a sip and a dip’ in the waters surrounding the Golden Temple!

**Granthi – one who performs priestly duties in a gurdwara (Sikh place of worship).

WHAT IS IT?
White Tantric Yoga (WTY) is world-renowned as one of the most powerful and beautiful of all subtle energy practices. It is an integral part of the Kundalini Yoga experience. It enables you to break through deep subconscious blocks, so that your mind, body, and soul can act together as one. As a path to personal freedom and awareness, it has been said that this practice can bring success to every area of your life.

WTY is done in pairs as a group meditation. You sit facing a partner and follow instructions given on DVD by the Mahan Tantric, Yogi Bhajan, and repeated by the course facilitator. Every course is facilitated in person by a representative of the Mahan Tantric. Each WTY course consists of between six and eight kriyas. A WTY kriya is a meditation incorporating a yoga posture, mudra (hand position), eye focus (dristi) and mental focus. Sometimes the meditations are accompanied by music. The meditations vary in length from 11 to 62 minutes. There are breaks in between each mediation.

WHAT TO EXPECT
There are no prerequisites for participating in White Tantric Yoga. Beginners will tune into their internal energies and enjoy a deep and sometimes challenging meditative experience. More advanced meditators will deepen their experience and make new inroads to their spiritual awareness. The mere act of registering for a White Tantric Course sends an intention--a message to the universe--that you’re looking for a change and that you want to cleanse yourself. Some people have very specific intentions for White Tantric Yoga. They might have an intention of getting rid of “X,” to heal “Y” or to understand “Z.” In the alternative, if you have an unpleasant memory, you can bring that thought and find relief at White Tantric Yoga—you don’t have to go through it over and over again.

WHAT TO WEAR
Wear loose fitting and comfortable white or light-colored clothing. White combines all the colors and enhances the magnetic field. Bring a white cotton head covering that will stay securely on your head (...there will be white head coverings available to purchase at WTY if you forget yours or don’t have one). Wearing a head covering is for your personal growth and upliftment. It also helps keep your positive energy within. Wear shoes that slip on and off easily because White Tantric Yoga is practiced with the feet uncovered.

FOR ALL SPIRITUAL SEEKERS, TRAVEL TO INDIA HAS A SPECIAL APPEAL. The very land is steeped in spirituality, where many ancient practices were developed and perfected over 5,000 years ago. Simply walking the land can leave a profound and lasting imprint on your soul. To transform your life sometimes requires a journey which will change the way you view yourself and the world.

This is the third tour to India that Shakta and Hari Dev have led with the guidance of tour operator Deepak Singh of Spiritual Journeys. While maintaining all the comforts of home you will have the profound experience of India; absorbing the rich spiritual traditions while enjoying safe food, excellent lodging and the guidance of experienced staff.

Highlights of our tour include:
 Participating in the 5-day Punarnava conference “Ayurveda and Yoga: Where Science Meets Consciousness” held in Rishikesh (the yoga capital of the world);
 Visiting the sacred Golden Temple in Amritsar;
 Seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra on a beautiful sunrise tour;
 Washing away your karmas in the Mother River Ganges;
 Visiting Old and New Delhi;
 Walking the holy ground where Lord Buddha spoke his first sermon after 'awakening' (optional extension tour to Sarnath/Varanasi).

The BBC has listed the Golden Temple and Taj Mahal as two of the top ten sites to visit in the world. The basic tour fee of $2,035 includes the conference, comfortable lodging, sacred ceremonies, breakfast daily and English-speaking guides throughout the trip (land only – airfare to and from India is approximately $1,300 additional). Besides visiting the great religious and cultural sites, and walking in the footsteps of the Masters, our tour also provides time to “shop with Shakta” in the bazaars (an experience in and of itself!) and partake in local customs and ceremonies. The optional extension tour is $400 additional. For more information click here.
Moon Watch
CURRENT MOON

Full Moon - January 19

New Moon - February 2
(Above Dates Adjusted for Central Time Zone)

Full Moon
You are naturally accelerated on a full moon. You are at your highest energy level. The secretions in your body will be at their maximum, so you don't want your energy being used to consume food. Save your energy to reconstruct yourself. Try to drink only liquids on this day. If you feel you must eat, drink only milk. (But, don't drink cold milk right out of the refrigerator. Milk should be brought to a boil. Allow the milk to foam up and then bring the heat down so the milk is on a slow boil for 5-10 minutes. While cooking it, you may add a pinch of ground turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, a cinnamon stick, or a few pinches of ginger to reduce any mucous causing side effect.)

Waning Moon
... is the time between the Full Moon and the day before the New Moon. This is the best time to remove things, relationships or situations from your life that no longer serve you. It is not generally thought of as the best time to start a new project.

New Moon
The New Moon is when you are at your lowest...energy-wise. It is a good day to fast on lemon and water. Fast from sun-up until the next morning at breakfast, when you "break" the "fast."

A Thought From Yogi Bhajan
"
When we meditate in a state of unisonness and tune into the mantra of the tattvas, Sa-Ta-Na-Ma, or the mantra of the Tresha Guru, Wahe Guru, or the mantra of the Ik Sharee, single-sound words, such as Jehovah-Yaa, Hallelujah-Haa, Allah-Laa, Rama-Raa, we erase the akashic record of cause and effect. However, this can only happen when the planet earth and the self are passing through the twilight zones of Time and Space. These are from 4 am to 7 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm of each longitude and latitude. In the morning it is called the Amrit Vela--the ambrosial hours and in the evening it is called the “prayer time.” Any meditation done in a state of consciousness at that time gives us a clear tomorrow and erases the cause of sorrow which we seed through our thoughts. Through meditation we stand redeemed. It is called Moksha, Nirvana, redemption or liberation.
"
