What Your Professors Won't Tell
You
Enthusiasm for limited government principles is clearly growing all
over the U.S., as evidenced by the continued success of Tea Party
activists. But if you have college-age children that have just
returned to campus, it's a pretty safe bet they're surrounded by
professors that are more inclined to disparage the free market than
to celebrate it. What can you do to make sure they hear both
sides?
Fear not. As part of the Bastiat Legacy Project, Atlas has
collaborated with Students for Liberty (SFL) to
publish a book to fill that vacuum titled Economics of Freedom: What Your
Professors Won't Tell You. The book features selected
writings of Frdric Bastiat, a foreword by F.A. Hayek and a
closing chapter, "Twenty Myths about Markets" by Atlas Vice
President for International Programs, Tom Palmer.
SFL has sent 30,000 copies of the book to its campus chapters in an
effort to inundate college lecture halls and term papers with the
ideas of economic liberty. For more information
on the book and the essay contest the Project has launched, visit
here.
To receive your copy of Economics
of Freedom: What Your Professors Won't Tell You the book is provided
free to those who donate $100 or more to Atlas's Bastiat Legacy
Project. To purchase a copy for $10 contact Erin Grant at Erin.Grant@AtlasNetwork.org. Give the gift of
great ideas this Christmas (or keep it for yourself!)
We
have additional stories about Atlas happenings below, including
notes on our upcoming "Freedom on the Road" activities in Brazil,
and two programs we're organizing in conjunction with State Policy
Network's annual meeting. Also, read about how Atlas trustee John
Blundell has given Margaret Thatcher a "comic book superhero"
makeover. Piqued your interest? Good! But first, some quick
headlines from your allies in the Atlas
network.

Female
Force, Margaret Thatcher
Atlas Board member and former Director General of the UK's Institute for Economic Affairs
John Blundell has written a 36-page comic book entitled Female Force - Margaret Thatcher
which is being distributed by U.S.-based Bluewater Comics and will
be available through Amazon.com. Including the cover
and credits the comic spans 24 pages with 12 pages of

In comic book form John charts the life, rise, policies and impact

strongly ideological I was allowed to be. This has to be the most
ideas oriented comic book ever written." Atlas affiliated groups

Henriques Viola, runner-up in the Atlas/OrdemLivre.org
Bastiat Essay Contest, has penned an article thoroughly
evaluating the import restrictions placed on chickens by the
Mozambican state and the price increases that accompany the new
rules.
Writing for Atlas's Portuguese platform, Violas explains,
"This step was
taken under pressure from domestic producers unable to compete with
foreign producers, especially Brazil, Argentina and South Africa
...
the
truth is that today it is more expensive to consume chicken than
before. Prior to the measure chicken cost about 70 meticais (just
over US$2.80), today chicken costs around 110 meticais
(US$4.40)"
