My cold is over and we as a family are moving inexorably to change our circumstances. We are closing on the sale of our house (No, this is not for financial reasons; we've decided to move again after 5+ years in our home) and will be closing on the sale in 3 weeks.
We expected this to take a while but good karma is allowing us to move quickly. So, we are moving to a temporary place while our new one is being readied; in this way, our son finishes his school year and then we move to our new home.
And as exciting as that is, we almost had an extraordinary event happen. My office collectively bought tickets for the $319 million dollar MegaMillions lottery and came within 1 number of winning. We had 4 numbers plus "the mega number" and will be sharing $10000 (Had we had 5 numbers and not the mega number, it would have been $250000).
Like much of life, we were so close to something extraordinary . . . but not quite there!

So, Do You Have Any Questions for Us?
If you follow my advice about interviewing, you know that I think most people make the mistake of talking about what they have done instead of talking about what they've done in the context of what an employer is looking for and cares about.
Thus, you already know I do not believe that you wait for an employer to ask you whether you have any questions to find out about the job. You ask about the job at the beginning of your interview so you can use their description to tailor your answers to what they care about.
But the problem with this is what do you ask an interviewer when they get to that part of the interview when they get around to asking, "So. Do you have any questions for us?"

You Don't Like Spam? So Why Are You Spamming Me?
One of the reasons I like Gmail as much as I do is because its spam filter is extremely good. The spam filter the local ISP provides is horrible and requires that every time I open it, I have to manually create rules that direct future emails from the spammer go directly to my delete files. It is too time consuming, so I've switched to Gmail and abandoned the ISP's email account for me to the spammers.
At work, every day, I arrive to at least 100 and, more often, 150+ emails from individuals whose resumes in no way shape or form reflect the specifics of the requirements of the job description they are applying for.

As someone who uses TheLadders to fill jobs with clients, I find it to be useful to reach out to senior professionals in a number of professional categories. They do charge job hunters for some of their services, however there are some free options you can take advantage of that still make it useful. Either way, it is one of the better services in this category. ================================ I was speaking with my friend Hal this week, a recruiter in Chicago about life and work when he thanked me for teaching him what I call, "The Single Best Question You Should Ask on Any Interview" and when to ask it. He told me that since he started coaching people on how to use it on interviews, their success rates on interviews had skyrocketed and, for one of his coaching clients, he had gone from almost being fired to a 95% approval rating. You, too, can learn this extremely successful technique by ordering my ebook, The Single Best Question You Should Ask on Any Interview." It is available as a PDF, for Amazon's Kindle and for Barnes & Noble's Nook for only $9.99. BTW, Hal wrote one of the articles for it. ============================

Want to earn extra money the easy way? If your company is interviewing, email the name, number and email address of the person who's hiring and for what job. I'll keep your name out of it and, if I fill the job, will pay a finders' fee to you. If you interview with a company and are rejected, email the best info you can about the job (company name, manager name, number, email address is ideal) and, if I fill the job, I will also pay a finders' fee to you.
===========================
No upfront costs If you are someone with a book to sell online, a short story, a brief report or some other information that you would like to monetize, email me at TheBigGameHunter@gmail.com. Describe what you have available and we'll see if we can monetize it for you on a revenue sharing basis.
