Seven Years, Seven Lessons Copyright 2011: Jennifer Britton
| Seven years ago this week I took the plunge of moving full time into my own business and work as a coach, trainer and consultant. Every day has been a learning moment, and I haven't looked back. Whether you are in your own business, or work internally, here are seven lessons that have been really important in my work:
1. Build on to what you know - We each bring experience under our belt. Find opportunities to continue to use what you know and what you believe in.
2. Track it - Notice where you are getting your results, in the short, medium and long-term. Track: What's working, what's not, when requests come in, registration fluctuations. Tracking this over one or more business cycles can be useful with your planning and positioning as you move forward.
3. Have a big stake - What is your vision for your business? What is the impact, or ripple, you want to create? Spend time identifying what the stake is for your work. This stake can help us remain connected to the bigger picture and our bigger vision, especially when we get stuck in the smaller details.
4. Don't be afraid to chart a new trail - Had I listened to many of the "senior coaches" when I started I would not be where I am today in the area of group coaching. Don't be afraid to chart a new trail and expand the horizons in your work. Where do you want to be a pioneer?
5. Diversify with Focus - The economic events of the past few years have reinforced the need for a diversity of services and products. Without getting too unfocused, what are the different revenue streams you want to create in your business and work?
6. Persevere - Seeds which you plant today may not sprout for some time. Persevere with what you are doing and what you believe in, and also identify what will generate money and work in the short and medium term.
7. Invest in Yourself - It's important to keep ourselves renewed, and at the top of our game. What activities do you have planned this year to become a better professional and a better person?
I look forward to many more years supporting you through my business and thank you for your continued support and inspiration.

In closing, I continue to get inquiries from coaches who are eager to run their own programs and don't want to reinvent the wheel. Over the past six months I have made two of my programs available for Coaches through a program license - the 90 Day Your Balanced Life program, a work-life balance group coaching program (6 session, Virtual Retreat and Retreat options avaialble) and the 90 Day BizSuccess program - a program for small business owners. If you are a coach who wants to expand their offering without having to create a program from scratch I hope that you may be interested in learning more about becoming a licensor. Interested coaches are invited to join me on a call on Friday April 15th from 1-1:30 pm Eastern at 1-712-432-3030, access 503003 when I will answer any questions you have about the programs and the licensing process. For more information about cost and more about the programs, please visit http://bit.ly/egvaY3.
I look forward to connecting with many of you in the coming weeks!
Best wishes for your group programs,
Jenn
