Historic New Castle is truly a step back in time. Both visitors and Delawareans should explore the rich history of our country.

Dutch house

The Old New Castle Court House was built in 1732 and served as the meeting place for Delaware's colonial assembly. Tour topics include Delaware boundaries, colonial history, slavery and abolition. (http://bit.ly/b0NChi)

The Read House & Gardens was built in 1801 by the son of George Read, a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. Twelve rooms, three in the Colonial Revival style, and the formal gardens are open to the public. (www.hsd.org)

Battery Park houses the ticket office of the Frenchtown Railroad. It served as a major
transportation byway between the North and South. The park's surroundings include a waterfront walkway and playground.
