Greetings!
Welcome to the
Semi-Annual Hotels Issue.
Any thoughts of a troubled economy have not reduced the optimism
and enthusiasm of hotel operators, if this list of 50 of the newest
and smartest is any indication.
Although not all are Virtuoso (yet!), these are luxury properties
that have either just opened, or have undergone an extensive
renovation of the entire property. In most cases, you'll read about
them here, before you see them featured in the travel mags - which
means, you can discover them before the masses, too! Just give me a
call, and "consider it done!"

Amangiri Lake Powell
opened in October 2009 and is located on a 243-hectare (600-acre)
expanse of wilderness in Canyon Point, Southern Utah, close to the
border with Arizona. The resort is tucked into a protected valley
with sweeping views over colorful, stratified rock towards the
Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument. The structures are
commanding and in proportion with the scale of the natural
surroundings, yet provide an intimate setting from which to view
and appreciate the landscape.

Landings St.
Lucia
Regarded as the jewel of the
Caribbean, St. Lucia is as well known for its dramatic inland
topography of rain forest footpaths and ancient volcanic remnants
as it is for its iconic oceanic scenery of windswept shores and
protected bays. Although this picturesque environment may seem
worlds away from urban living, St. Lucia is a modern island in all
the important respects. A stable, independent nation, St. Lucia
enjoys an established and trusted monetary system, excellent
medical, utility and telecommunications infrastructure and a safe
tourism environment.

Hotel Rio Sagrado,
Urubamba, Peru
In the Sacred Valley of the
Incas, close to the Inca capital of Cusco and below the ancient
sacred city of Machu Picchu lies the Hotel Rio Sagrado by
Orient-Express. Sensitively built around the existing trees and
plant life, the beauty of the gardens of the Hotel Rio Sagrado
combines with the ambience of the valley to create a relaxing,
slow-paced environment.

Perivolas,
Santorini
Built amphitheatrically,
Perivolas' secluded location combines expansive views with the
luxury of absolute tranquility. To protect guests' privacy,
fragrant fig trees, red-hot geraniums, and brilliant bougainvillea
surround the houses. Terraced gardens spill down the slope to the
infinity pool, which seems to slip off the rim of the cliff and
bleed into the blue horizon. Only the occasional toll of church
bells or the purring of a fishing boat far below breaks the
meditative silence. It is easy to linger there all day, watching
the changing light until the sun settles into the sea.
