Greetings!
Being organized doesn't require fancy contraptions
or lots of work. The best way to get and stay organized is to keep
things simple. Tools like a monthly planning calendar
and over-the-door hooks can turn chaos into control. This month's
newsletter focuses on "back to basics" organizing that's both
practical and innovative. And, it can help you be more productive
- at work or at school.
As you start
thinking about getting your office or study room organized, make
sure to take advantage of the coupon at the bottom of this
email.
Also,
continue to check out my
blog where I'm constantly posting a lot of great product
reviews, useful tips, and information about innovatively
organized news!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Bowman

ASK THE
ORGANIZER
Dear Elizabeth,
What do I do with paperwork
that's been sitting in my inbox for weeks, or months even? I have
"projects" that I'd like to get to some day, but can't seem to find
the time. I just keep moving these projects to the bottom of my
inbox. Thus, my inbox is never cleaned
out!
- Kim E., Seattle, WA
Dear
Kim,
It sounds like you've made your
inbox your pseudo memory! Lingering papers can easily cover up
other items (like bills) and an eternally full inbox will always
leave you feeling like you're not making any progress. So, for
sanity and productivity's sake, what should you do with the paper
from your future project list?
1) If you're interested in eliminating the paper altogether, I
recommend creating folders on your computer for each project, then
scanning each sheet and adding the pages to their new digital home.
2) If you are a person who prefers to keep paper, do the same thing
but with physical folders instead. A caution: Only use actual
folders if you have a designated storage area for them in or
they'll just end back in your inbox! 3) If you don't have a
specific location to put the file folders, another great option is
to buy a plastic expanding file (with pockets). Give each plastic
divider a project name and slide your papers in their appropriate
pockets.
Now that you've organized your project papers, what do you do to
remember them? Create a master list for posting within sight, or
even better, schedule each project on your calendar and give it a
deadline!
Happy
Organizing!

INCREASED
PRODUCTIVITY WITH THE RIGHT ORGANIZING
TOOLS
The iOrganized Blog regularly features my favorite
products to keep your office and desk organized. These items can
positively affect your productivity and
professional image.
- In a file cabinet or on your desk, this dual purpose file features
innovative pivoting hangers so you can put it away or take it to a
meeting.
- Invest in a sturdy binder that you can use
over and over, and if you're storing receipts or time-sensitive
items, remember to clean it out at the end of the year and archive
important documents.
- This version of the sticky note will help you keep
track of all of your to-do's.
- A magnetic white board with
extra space to store papers and the ability to stand on its own
makes it unique.
- A shredder is an office must these days. Here's what to look for when
buying a shredder.

ORGANIZING TIPS FOR
YOUR SMALL
SPACE
Whether it's a dorm room or an
apartment, small spaces can pose big organizing challenges.
- Over-the-door hooks are
essential if you're not allowed to drill into the walls. Keeping
clutter off the floor will help your space look and feel
neater.
- Under the bed storage is key when you have extremely limited
space like in a dorm room. Low profile bins or baskets can hold
everything from sheets to socks to supplies and fit under the
bed.
- Hanging shoe organizers aren't
just for shoes! The pockets or cubbies are great for
holding hats, scarves, bottles of shampoo or hairspray, jewelry,
camera or sunglasses.
-
For shared apartments or dorms, labels and markers should be kept
in common areas such as the kitchen where you can note the
expiration date and name of the person who owns the
item.
- Think vertically for maximizing work
surfaces. Add a hutch to your desk so small items are within arms
reach. Put up a bulletin board or utilize a compact hanging file
box under your desk.
