1. New "Short Film" Category

We are pleased to announce that we have added a new "Short Film" category to our Back Cast Fly Fishing Film Festival competition.

Short Film: Maximum 5 minutes. As short as you like.

Winning Short Film: $150

Backgrounder: Although we were aware of the success of the Drake Fly Fishing Video Awards when we put out our request for submissions earlier in the summer, we were still undecided on this category.

Since then, we have watched with interest the CPAWS Two Minute Video Contest (promoting Canada's National Parks). And in late September, we enjoyed attending the Paddling Film Competition & Festival (mostly short films) sponsored by local paddling shop Aquabatics.

All of this caused us to revisit our original decision and that resulted in today's announcement.

Just a reminder, the deadline for submissions is November 30 2010.

3. Original Call for Entries

Bow River Shuttles is excited to announce that the 4th Annual Back Cast Fly Fishing Film Festival is open to submissions as of today, July 29, 2010. Over the next four months, we will be collecting entries for the contest. So fire up those digital camcorders and get out there.

This segment of the Back Cast Fly Fishing Film Festival is geared toward amateur film makers, and proceeds benefit Project Healing Waters Canada.

Submission Guidelines:

-Videos should be 5-10 minutes in length. Fifteen minutes maximum.

-The films must be about fly fishing, but can cover any aspect of the sport, from conservation, to big fish, humor, history, etc.

-The submission must be new for the contest - never before aired publically. That means nothing that's on YouTube or other online video site.

-It's best to submit video in AVI file format for quality, but we can accept MP4, .MOV or .MPG format as well.

-Send CDs or DVDs to Bow River Shuttles, 1279 Lake Sundance Cres S.E., Calgary, AB. T2J 2S7.

-There is a $20 entrance fee, which goes to Project Healing Waters Canada. Make check or money orders out to Project Healing Waters Canada and include them with your submission.

-Movies using copyright material without permission will be disqualified.

-By submitting your movie to the Back Cast Fly Fishing Film Festival, you are giving rights to Bow River Shuttles to show your film or excerpts of it during the festival, and to include the film or excerpts for a compilation DVD.

Deadline for submissions: Nov 30, 2010.

Prize for winning film: $350.00

Back Cast Fly Fishing Film Festival Date: Saturday February 12, 2011

So fire up those cameras guys and girls - and remember, it's for a good cause - raising funds for an organization that provides a unique outlet for healing and rehabilitation to injured Canadians.

Happy fishing!

Kindest regards,
Michelle Magotiaux
