October's Party
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

Instructor Spotlight ...
Sheila Hall
With a Masters in Business Education from VSU, Sheila
Hall is an experienced educator who happens to know a thing or two about technology, and who takes pride in being perceived as being approachable, knowledgeable, and helpful. And, if you have ever been in one of her IT Training and Communication classes, you understand how accurate this assessment is.
Sheila has lived in Valdosta for as long as she's been married to her husband, Steven - 21 years. She has been at VSU since 2000 and currently serves as an IT Specialist helping to design and deliver technology training, develop online courses/ professional development resources and provide one-on-one computer software assistance to faculty and staff.
Because technology is ever-evolving, Sheila says, "it forces me to be a life-long learner." While teaching and training, she always tries to remember what it felt like to be the student so she strives to be patient and deliberate in her explanations.
As for professional career highlights, Sheila lists "traveling to Ghana, Africa, to collaborate with professors to integrate technology into schools there." Away from the office she likes listening to music of all genres, simply relaxing and enjoying the "blessings of her twin five-year old boys."

Human Resources Professional
HR touches everyone in the workplace.
Traditionally, the role of the HR professional was closely aligned with personnel and administration functions that were viewed by the organization as paperwork. Today however, to be successful business partners, the HR staff members have to think like business people, know finance and accounting, and be accountable and responsible for cost reductions and the measurement of all HR programs and processes.

The Play's The Thing!
Whether you are a veteran of the theatre or have just recently discovered your penchant for acting and are waiting to make your stage debut, LIR's acting sessions could be just the thing for you.
In session now is Drama A - Z. Coming for Winter 2015, Drama A-Z Part 2 will lay the foundation for developing character and ensemble acting and a play for performance will be selected. Spring 2015, the Drama Performance class will be working on the production by applying the techniques which have been learned. The play presentation will be May 15 after the "Potluck Luncheon."
These classes are all geared to helping you feel comfortable and competent on stage as you move toward performance.
Your instructors...
Native Valdostan, Dr. Sandra Dickson is part of a multi-generational family of actors and performers and has performed professionally with her husband, Jerry, in community theatres throughout Georgia for over 40 years. Sandra taught drama early in her career as an educator and while serving as an assistant principal, she also worked with the drama program at her school.
Her father, Willard Belote, frequently appeared in productions of the original Valdosta Little Theatre. Son, Scott, a theatre graduate has played professionally in the US and Great Britain. "Waiting in the wings" are the youngest 2 of her 4 grandchildren who hope to follow the oldest grands in Community Theatre.
Born and raised in Maryland, Kathryn Smith made her community theatre debut at the age of 2 answering the call for a 'young child who could memorize and speak a few lines.' She continued acting in school plays and was part of the Children's Experimental Theatre between the ages of 5 and 14 learning and using improvisational theatre skills. Later, Kathryn was part of the very active theatre group known as Glen Players at Towson State College in Baltimore.
The Air Force moved Kathryn and her husband to Washington State where she organized a theatre company at Larson AFB. Stationed later in Tokyo, Kathryn was a part of the Tokyo Drama and Amateur Drama groups; in Tokyo, she finished her degree at Sophia University majoring in Oriental Theatre. Back in Maryland as part of the Senior Theatre Star Showcase, she taught acting for seniors at the Community Colleges of Baltimore County. For the past 5 years, Kathryn has been a part of the Valdosta community.
