Learn Your Risk
& Get Screened

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, Louisiana has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the nation. This is due to lack of access to care, delayed diagnosis and treatment, limited educational awareness and low utilization of preventative services. Screening tests can help find cancer at an early stage, before symptoms appear. The earlier abnormal tissue or cancer is discovered, the more options there are for successful treatment.

Real Stories,
Right Here at Home

Meet Pat

With the holiday season quickly approaching, Pat Brister wanted to know her testing results immediately. At the end of lunch with her son and daughter-in-law, she received the phone call.

"Thoughts of missing time with my children and grandchildren instantly consumed my every thought," said Pat.

Team Member Spotlight
Amy Ponson, Director of Development

This month, pink is everywhere! Amy Ponson is rarely seen sitting in her office because she is working hard to build cancer awareness and increase philanthropy to fund patient assistance and free screening programs. As the director of development for MBPCC at TGMC, Amy personifies the passion of the clinical team and the rest of the staff as she works throughout the community to further the lifesaving mission of the Cancer Center through donor gifts. The mother of a precious 6-month-old son and an active volunteer with local chamber groups, Amy is a former Cotton Festival Queen and uses her pretty smile to cheer up everyone she sees. Skilled at baking, cooking and entertaining, she is the perfect person to oversee our community fundraising events. Geaux, Amy!

Thank you for all your efforts in the fight against cancer!
