The Washington Building Congress, a non-political association of property owners and managers, developers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, realtors, architects, engineers, government officials and virtually any other type of business with an interest in the real estate industry, will bring their Regional Development Committee to Alexandria for an update on development activity in the City. City Council will hold their first legislative meeting of the month where items of interest include recognition of Congressman James P. Moran, Consideration of the Monthly Financial Report for the Period Ending August 31, 2014and Receipt of the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Calendar (Tues. 10/14 at 7:00 PM, City Hall, Council Chambers).
The Alexandria Small Business Development Center's Start, Manage, Grow workshop series continues and will feature John Boulware, SBDC Government Contracting Consultant. In this first of two sessions on Federal Proposals, attendees will receive an introductory overview of the Federal Technical Proposal process to include Roles & Responsibilities of key participants, Technical outline and compliance matrix, Role of the evaluation criteria, Tips on technical proposal development success factors and Identify some things small businesses should do and should not do when managing a technical proposal effort. The program is titled "Federal Contracting: Federal Government Technical Proposals" (Weds. 10/15 at 9:00 AM, AEDP/SBDC Offices, 625 N. Washington St., registration required).

The Board of Architectural Review (BAR)- Old and Historic District will hold their regular monthly meeting where items of interest include a work session to discuss the proposed development project at 2 Duke Street- formerly known as Robinson Terminal South(Weds. 8/15 at 7:30 PM, City Hall, Council Chambers).
The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce will hold their every-other-month Board meeting where the AEDP attends as an ex-officio member.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office presents their annual National Trademark Expo (Fri. 10/17 and Sat. 10/18, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, 600 Dulany Street). The Expo is free and open to the public and features corporate exhibitors, trademarked characters, themed displays, and educational seminars that illustrate the vital role trademarks play in the global economy.
City Council will also hold their monthly public hearing where items of interest include consideration of a Special Use Permit (SUP) for Sonoma Cellar LLC, a restaurant and wine bar at 207 King Street and consideration of an SUP and other approvals for La Bergerie to operate a hotel and restaurant at 329 N Washington Street (Sat. 10/18 at 9:30 AM, City Hall, Council Chambers).
