The Wayne - Westland Firefighters Carnival is in Full Swing - The Wayne-Westland Firefighters are hosting their annual carnival from April 26 - May 5, 2013 at 7420 N. Wayne Road, just north of Warren.  Bring your family for some great food, fun, games and rides.  Stop in Mayor Wild's office for a coupon for $3 off an unlimited rides wristband good for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday ONLY.  For more information, please visit www.ww-fa.com/carnival.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming meetings, which are open to the public.  Below is a list of the meetings, along with their date, time and location.

  • The Westland City Council will hold a Budget Study Session on Saturday, April 27, 2013 in the Council Conference Room, located at 36601 Ford Road beginning at 9 a.m. and expected to run until approximately 2:30 p.m.
  • The Rehab Review Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.

Norwayne Community Citizens Council Hosts Norwayne Community Garden Volunteers - On Saturday, April 27,2013 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. volunteers will be planting at the Norwayne Community Garden, located at the corner of Dorsey and Newago.  How does the garden work?  The Norwayne Community plants it, grows it and harvests it.  You can harvest for yourself and your family and/or for others in the Norwayne Community.  Scheduled distribution dates are held at the Dorsey Center throughout the season.  Volunteers are also needed for watering and weeding the beds throughout the season.  For more information, please contact Pam Carter at [email protected] or 734-620-1089.

 

DIA Inside-Out Program Kicks-Off with Three Cities Art Club - The City of Westland is teaming up with Three Cities Art Club to bring residents an "Art & Appetizers" reception from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28th at the William P. Westland Celebrates Applebee's Remodel with Grand Re-Opening Ceremony - The City of Westland is pleased to announce that the Applebee's Restaurant, located at 36475 Warren Road will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, April 29 at 11 a.m. to celebrate their $300,000 remodel investment and grand re-opening.  Remodel includes revamping of exterior as well as the interior with new seating, additional TV's, and revitalization of the bar area.

 

Tim Horton's Opens Newest Westland Location - The City of Westland is pleased to welcome the newest Tim Horton's Restaurant, located in the Exxon station at 38350 Ford Road (corner of Hix Road), with a ribbon cutting ceremony that will be held on Tuesday, April 30 at 10 a.m.  Tim Horton's current menu spans a broad range of categories that appeal to guests throughout the day, such as flavored cappuccinos, specialty and steeped teas, home style soups, fresh sandwiches and freshly baked goods including donuts, muffins, bagels, cookies, croissants and pastries.  

 

Mayor Wild to hold Twitter Town Hall on Website Redesign - Mayor Wild will be hosting his first Twitter Town Hall on Tuesday, April 30th at 1:00 p.m. to solicit suggestions from residents on how the City's website could be improved.  We encourage everybody to get on Twitter and get involved to assist in the improvement of the design, content and online services that are provided on the City's website at www.cityofwestland.com.

 

Westland Farmer's Market Returns with New Day and Time - The Westland Farmer's Market will return for the 2013 season on Thursday, May 2 from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  The Westland Farmers Market, will be held every Tuesday from 3 - 7 p.m. and is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  For more information, please visit www.cityofwestland.com or call Lori Fodale, Economic Development Director at 734-467-3264.

 

Judges and Court Staff of Westland's 18th District Court Take Part in Law Day 2013 - Honorable Judge Sandra Ference Cicirelli and Mark A. McConnell along with court staff will celebrate Law Day 2013 on Friday, May 3 at Stevenson Middle School, located at 38501 Palmer Road from 9 - 11:30 a.m.  National Law Day is a day to demonstrate is accessible to all persons regardless of race, status, wealth or creed.  For more information, please call Christopher Raymond at (734)595-8781.

 

Westland Figure Skaters Host Ice Show - The Westland Figure Skating Association presents this year's Ice Show at the Mike Modano Ice Arena, located at 6210 N. Wildwood, on Friday,May 3 - Sunday, May 5.  Tickets and show time information is available by calling the ice arena at (734) 729-4560.

 

The City of Westland in Partnership with the Holliday Nature Preserve Association (HPNA) Hosts Early Bird Rouge Rescue - Volunteers are needed for the Saturday, May 4th Early Bird Rouge Rescue from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Wayne Road Bridge area to help with creek clean-up, invasive plant removal and the paint over of bridge graffiti.  Gloves, trash bags, water, tools, paint supplies, a wash up station and free Friends of the Rouge t-shirt will be provided.  For more information, please contact Kevin Buford at [email protected] or Cyndi Ross at [email protected].  All volunteers MUST pre-register.

 

Westland Celebrates Armed Forces Day - The Sixth Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Westland Historic Village Park, located at 857 N. Wayne Road.  There will be reenactors of four American wars, a Flag raising ceremony, Fife Demonstration, MRE lecture and a Reenactors Showcase.  Admission is FREE and food and beverages will be available.  Additional parking is available at Dr. Office next door.

 

Wayne - Westland Parks & Recreation Offers Summer Kickball Leagues - Registration has begun for Summer Kickball Leagues at Anderson Ball Fields at Attwood Park in Wayne.  The cost is $200/team and must be paid in full at time of registration.  All teams must register at the Wayne Community Center by Monday, June 3, 2013.  Games will start the week of June 10, 2013.  For more information or to register, please call (734) 721-7400.
