The October Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) monthly lunch will feature T.C. Williams' Career and Transition Services and Strengthening the Bond between Businesses and Residents (Mon. 10/20 at 11:30 AM, Kaizen Tavern, 1901 Mt. Vernon Ave., more information).    


The
 Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association (ACVA) will hold their regular Board of Visitors meeting (Mon. 10/20, 5:00 PM, ACVA Offices, 625 N. Washington St, Suite 400).  

 

The Alexandria Waterfront Commission will hold their monthly meeting where items of interest include an update on the Old Dominion Boat Club Design, an update from the Robinson Terminal North design team and information on the Carr Hotel schedule and status(Tues. 10/21 at 7:30 AM, City Hall, Sister Cities Conference Room).

 

The Old Town Business & Professional Association (OTBPA) invites Old Town businesses to the latest installment of 'Shop Talk'- a casual meeting where representatives from the City will be there to discuss the proposed closure option under consideration for the 100 block of King Street (Tues. 10/21 at 8:00 AM, Bittersweet, 823 King St). 

 

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host their monthly Small Business Roundtable, where the topic of discussion will be "Customer Service- Training and Motivating Yourself and Your Staff" (Tues. 10/21, noon, AEDP/SBDC Offices, 625 N. Washington St, Suite 400).

 

Harris Teeter is proud to welcome shoppers to its Madison & St. Asaph store at The Kingsley as the company celebrates its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a sampling event featuring Harris Teeter brand products (Tues. 10/21 at 5:30 PM, 735 N. St. Asaph St).

 

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Business Awards Reception next week, honoring Lonnie Rich, Partner, Rich Rosenthal Brincefield Manitta Dzubin & Kroeger, LLP. There are also a number of businesses vying for a variety of awards; winners will be announced at the event (Weds. 10/22 at 6:00 PM, George Washington Masonic Memorial, registration required). 

 

The City of Alexandria is holding a public meeting for the West End Transitway projectwhere attendees will learn about the West End Transitway Alternatives Analysis / Environmental Assessment (AA/EA)-an analysis of transportation, land use, and environmental conditions along the corridor, a required step towards applying for Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding. The West End Transitway will provide high quality transit service connecting the Van Dorn Metrorail station to the Van Dorn / Landmark corridor, the Beauregard corridor, the Mark Center, the Shirlington Transit Center, and the Pentagon Metrorail station (Weds. 10/22, 6:30 - 8:30 PM, the Pavilion at Mark Center, 5708 Merton Ct).

 

The Alexandria Small Business Development Center's Start, Manage, Grow workshop series continues and will feature consultant Paul Hickey of the M&C Group.  In this second of two sessions on Federal Proposals, attendees will receive an introductory overview to developing cost proposals and managing company finances in support of the Federal Government to include Basic financial concepts to provide a solid foundation to bid, win, and execute Federal contracts, Different types of direct and indirect costs, with an emphasis on the impact to Profit and Loss (P&L), and Step-by-step numerical examples reinforce the treatment of costs and profit for multiple Government contract types; Cost Plus, Time & Material, and Firm Fixed Price. The program is titled "Federal Contracting: Federal Government Cost Proposals" (Weds. 10/22 at 9:00 AM, AEDP/SBDC Offices, 625 N. Washington St., registration required).

 

The JCR Companies, CasRiegler Companies and Snead Construction are celebrating the grand opening of The Agency at 950,a new office and co-working space in Old Town.

 

The Potomac Yard Metro Implementation Work Group (PYMIG) meeting will include an update on the Potomac Yard Metrorail station EIS (Thurs. 10/23 at 6:00 PM, City Hall, Sister Cities Room 1101).

 

The next meeting of the Dominion Virginia Power 230 kV project Ad Hoc Work Group will take place this week (Thurs. 10/23, 7:00 PM, Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St.).
