ABOUT BRUNDIBR The Czechoslovakian children's opera Brundibr premiered in the concentration camp at Terezin in September 1943, with 54 additional performances the following year. It tells the story of a brother and
sister searching for milk to nourish their ailing mother. Brundibr was used for the Nazi propaganda film "The Fhrer Gives the Jews a City," after which all the participants, including the composer, were sent to Auschwitz where most were gassed upon arrival. Brundibr has become a symbol of the struggle to sustain artistic culture in the face of imminent peril.

Jews and BaseballMichigan Jewish Historical Society logo

The 9th Annual Karen Schneider Jewish Film Festival is proud to present Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story a documentary film narrated by Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Ira Berkow, and directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker Peter Miller. It is about the connection and history between American Jews and baseball. The movie discusses how in fact there have been key Jewish ballplayers in every decade since baseball started in the 1860s, and how that helped Jews assimilate and counteract the stereotype of Jews as cerebral but non-athletic. The film is presented in partnership with the FIA and the sponsorship of the Michigan Jewish Historical Society.
