Recent research by Workforce Planning Hamilton has discovered 7 key themes heard from local employers...

1. Hamilton employers have a positive employment outlook.
2. The majority of employers find recruitment challenging.
3. Certain industries have more recrutiment challenges than others.
4. The importance of soft skills.
5. Employees with the right technical and soft skills for the job have lower turnover than those who do not have the right fit.
6. Employers' increasing and evolving skill requirements continue to place importance on continuous learning.
7. Employers self-identified basic training courses that job seekers can take that will help them succeed once on the job.

Building Opportunities: Advancing Women in Non-Traditional Occupations

WPH and the YMCA are seeking women who are presently working in a non-traditional skilled trade, or who have worked in skilled trades in the past to complete a brief survey. We want to hear your thoughts on how to make it easier for women to launch and advance careers in skilled trades in the industrial, construction, and motive power sectors.

Our goal is to advise employers on best practices for recruiting, retaining, and advancing women. Your feedback will be used in an employer toolkit.
