Picnic with Grace

We hope everyone is planning to come to the Picnic with Grace on Sunday evening, September 21--hopefully at the labyrinth--unless we have to move inside due to the weather.  Hopkinsville is buzzing about this event!  If you haven't let anyone know that you would like to come, please contact Polly Stokes 270-886-2319.  We will have great entertainment provided by the Geezers and Jennifer Stokes and the Grace Notes.  This event is being planned by the Parish Life Group, and proceeds will go to our new missions project that we are calling GraceWorks.  You will learn more about GraceWorks on Sunday night.  Thanks in advance for your support and participation.

Message from the Steward of Our Little Library

We need books!  Grace Church has a Little Library that is located outdoors on our kindergarten sidewalk.  Books are put in the Library for anyone to take and keep or borrow and return.  We need donations of children's books for the Library.  If you have any books from your children or grandchildren that you would like to donate, please contact Ginny Lawson or you may bring them to the church office.

Blessing of the Animals

We have scheduled a Blessing of the Animals on the day before the official Feast Day of St. Francis-- Sunday, October 5, at 2:00 pm.  Please bring your critters for special prayers and individual blessings.  The service will be held in the courtyard behind the cloister, and, in case of inclement weather, will be held in the cloister.  Tell everyone about this event!  It will be a very special time!

Kindergarten Fundraising

You may know by now that the Kroger gift card program that we have benefited so much from is ending, but something even better is coming! Any money that you currently have on your gift card is still usable, but Kroger is not crediting additional funds to our cards.  Rather, Tom Schmidt is working to have Grace School listed as an approved non-profit recipient on Kroger's website.  All we will need to do is to register our Kroger Plus card on their site and all our purchases at Kroger, except for gas, will automatically mean a contribution to Grace School.  How easy is that?!  More information will be coming your way about when this new program starts.  We will also be glad to give you assistance, if needed, in getting your card registered.

Tom is also working to get Grace School approved to receive funds through the Box Tops for Education program.  Start saving your Box Top coupons that come on many, many items--cereals, soups, paper products, etc.--and bringing them or sending them to the church.

You go, Tom!

Saint Theresa's Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be
.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing,
Dance, praise and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Diana Butler Bass to visit Hopkinsville

First Christian Church is hosting the 2014 Regional Assembly of the Disciples of Christ, and their guest speaker is Diana Butler Bass, known by some of you because of her writing--including several books about the future of the church.  We have used at least one of them in our Adult Forum.  The Assembly runs from September 25-27, and the guest speaker will be presenting on Friday, September 26, both during the day and in the evening. Anyone who wants to go must register and pay $45.  If you would like to have more information, please contact me (Alice).  Registration will include a concert Friday evening with several popular Nashville artists!  She will be preaching at 10:30 am and 7:00 pm.  There are workshops between 3:00 and 5:00 pm--but no other information about what the topics are.

Keys, Anyone?

If you have a key to Grace Church and have no reason to be carrying it around, please return it to Debbie Motes at the church.  She is having difficulty getting more copies made, and it's expensive and inconvenient to install new locks just so we can provide keys to new teachers, new Altar Guild members, etc. as they join us.  Thanks!

Living the Questions Update

Our Adult Forum group continues to be enthusiastic about the material we are exploring and about the opportunity to talk with each other about what we believe--and what we don't believe.  A Monday evening series using the same material will begin on September 15.  Mark your calendars!  More details soon.  We had a great first session!  Join us on September 22 at 6:30 pm!

Have you remembered Grace Church in your will?
