INSIDE THIS ISSUE Now a Bi-Monthly eMagazine
~Eternal Love~
|
Inquiring minds often want to know why we made the ego in the first place; and also want to know if the ego survives death? This issue of our Bi-Monthly eMagazine takes a look at the latter question.
J. Michaels has been a contributor to our eMagazine almost from the very first issue beginning in 2009. There are eight of his poems, one article and a Book Review of his book Treasure of the Mind. This month we re-visit his novella, Treasure of the Mind, a fictionalized story of the author's healing from the guilt and sorrow after the death of his teenage son. J. Michaels introduces the entire story and also sets the scene for the chapter he shares. Each chapter of his novella ends with a POEM. We are pleased to share the poem that ends this specific chapter, in the POETRY section of this issue.
The Music section of this issue showcases a song written by Lorrie Tomlinson specifically for the Strawberry Fields Forever Music Festival and Enlightenment Retreat July 2012 called: We Are Love.
The DARE TO BE HAPPY series by Daniel Tipton has an excellent article addressing the advice from A Course in Miracles: "Do Not Seek to Conquer Fear"
Robert [Bob] Sears continues to dazzle the reader with his amazing clarity as he addresses the question "Do I Retain My Ego After I Die?" in light of the teachings of A Course in Miracles.
GUIDANCE from ELDER BROTHER is scribed by Sun~Rose. In this issue, Elder Brother speaks to us on Choice After Death.
As a REMINDER, we have DAILY scribing by Sun~Rose of GUIDANCE from Elder Brother on each and every DAILY LESSON, appearing on our Web Site and emailed each day to Course students who have joined our email list.
The Daily Lesson Conference Call, is a tremendous success. Two ministers of the Community Miracles Center, Rev. Pamela Whitman and myself, Rev. Reja Joy Green, are hosting the DAILY LESSON CONFERENCE CALL which is open to everyone. An average of 20 people join us every morning as we do the Daily ACIM Lesson together and share our experience. Some of those who are on the call choose to just listen; Some choose to participate in the reading aloud of the Lesson and some share their experiences and any questions they may have. The call is FREE and available to all. Come join us! 610-214-0000 Code: 320134# ♥ Past recordings are here.
We are also continuing to publish information regarding our TRANSLATION PROJECT. If you are inspired to give a tax deductible contribution to these efforts Please Click Here.
MAILING LIST CHANGES: Last year there were two Mailing Lists to choose from due to Leap Year. This year there is only one list but it is mailed out at noon ET for the next days' Lesson and Text Reading. This is because the day for some ACIM students, for example those in New Zealand, starts about 17 hours before the day starts for students here in the USA. These students need to receive the lesson at the start of 'their' day. Did you know that when it's noon in New York, it's the NEXT morning in Australia! ♥

Treasure of the Mind A Tale of Redemption
I wrote the novella Treasure of the Mind a few years after my only son was brutally murdered. The book is the concluding chapter in the larger story of my healing and redemption. Because A Course in Miracles [ACIM] played such a large part in that healing, I feel honored to share it with so many who share a love of The Course.
Allow me to set the scene for the chapter I would like to share by reading from the back flap of the novella:
"In the late summer months of 2000, on a cool dark night in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado, a seventeen year-old boy was murdered by a young man he once considered his best friend. The calamity nearly crippled the boy's parents, especially the father who struggled mightily with grief, anger, and guilt. With the help of a very special elderly sage, the father of the boy struggled to survive the tragedy and recover from the heartbreaking ordeal.
The story begins with the funeral of Michael's son, revealing the pain of a grief-stricken father on the verge of self-destruction and ends with his redemption and return to a meaningful life. Michael is referred by a close friend to an elderly gentleman named Solomon. Solomon is a wise, irreverent, white-haired seer living in the small coastal village of Carlsbad, California where he teaches his own very special brand of spiritual therapy for lost souls. His office is a coffee shop and the beach where he and Michael meet and together try to find a way to recover Michael's lost life after his son's death. The relationship that develops between Michael and Solomon reaches a depth rarely found between two men."
Now for a story within the story, I would like to share a short chapter in the book titled "Restless in Carlsbad", which takes place the day Michael arrives in Carlsbad and synchronistically encounters Solomon. Each chapter consists of two parts. The first part of each is prose and a description of Michael's journey. The second part of each is a poetic peek into his soul.
Restless in Carlsbad
I walked around town for the better part of the day but I couldn't tell you much of what I saw. The place felt magical but it was a blur to me as I kept returning to my thoughts about this strange little man and how he seemed to know me in a way I didn't understand. He had uttered only a few words but it was enough to disorient me and put my mind in a place that was profoundly uncomfortable. Over and over, I considered packing my bags and getting out of town. The words from one of my favorite songs by the Eagles, Hotel California ". . . you can check out but you can never leave" flashed in my mind. It seemed so strange and quite frankly, sent chills down my spine.
After hours of walking around in a semi-stupor, I checked my watch only to discover that it was almost dinner time. I found myself in front of a magnificent Victorian style house that just happened to be a restaurant and they had a bar. And I needed a drink, at least. The bartender was a young blond guy in his twenties probably trying to make enough money to keep his days open for surfing. He flashed a pearly white smile and greeted me with the same casualness that was so prevalent here. "I'll take a Rob Roy," I said, "and keep them coming." After several of my favorite alcoholic concoction, it was evident to me that the events of the day and the booze had taken its toll. I let my young bartender friend talk me into some food and they delivered it right to the bar. I woofed it down the way you do when the booze or pot munchies strike; fast and furious with a minimum of chewing involved.
After the blitz of booze and food ended, I tipped my newfound surfer/bartender buddy and headed back to the hotel. Luckily, there was only one main street to cross or I might not have made it back. The disorientation of the morning had only been exasperated by the day-long wandering and alcohol consumption. So after nearly getting run over and bumping into a couple of very tolerant locals, I managed to get to my room. The room was just getting dark enough to lull me into a half-sleep and eventually, blessed oblivion.
Sleep was no more forgiving than being awake. Dreams of dark places and distorted images filled my mind. I was looking for something very important but had no idea what it was or where to look. Was it my soul? Was it my son? Was it my death? I was overwhelmed by the fear of the possibility of never finding what I so desperately sought. I wandered for what seemed like an endless time and distance in a fluid spongy world that had no firmness or foundation. As my desperation neared the breaking point, I heard a soft, gender-less voice say "There is nothing to fear, your Brother waits." The peace of the voice brought the same tranquility to me and for a time, I was truly serene. I thought I might survive.

Strange wanderings in paradise
Fueled by confusion and fear
Looking to numb impending pain
Trying to forget the unforgettable
Hoping to forgive self-inflicted guilt
Seeking help and fearing it
A little old man assigned me
I can't stand to open the gate
To let him try his hand at healing
All that remorse and hate
Sleep, blessed sleep
Let me think no more
Forgive my reticence
To open that door

We Are Love
Music by Lorrie Tomlinson*
|
I am a singer/songwriter/guitar player and I recently returned to New Jersey from a stay at David Hoffmeister's Living Miracles Monastery in Utah. What an amazing experience!!
While I was there David hosted a music festival called the Strawberry Fields Forever Music Festival and Enlightenment Retreat - 2012 in July. Myself and 20 other artists shared our love for the One Mind and Christ through music and dance.
Here is link to a video of the song that I wrote for the festival. It's called " We are Love". [Preview my other song, "Decide for God" here.]
It's a song about being mirrors for each other. And in looking at others I see what needs to be healed in me. Here are the lyrics.

WE ARE LOVE
It feels so good to be given
A full moon over the canyon
It looks how it looks in the moment
It's up for the healing
Let's get real
Let's get to the bottom of it
I want to ride in your back pocket
Fly under hummingbird wings in the quickening
Stand firm in violet radiance
I drink from the cup of truth and innocence
Sister Platinum Hair
You're fruity and you're full of love
We are all one together
You are my savior
la la la la lala We are Love
You are a joyful dancer
Dancing barefoot in a strawberry field
I see you in me
I chose you and you chose me
We are glowing eternally
Stand firm in violet radiance
I drink from the cup of truth and innocence
Sister Platinum Hair
You're fruity and you're full of love
We are all one together
You are my savior

Dare To Be Happy
By REV. DANIEL TIPTON* Do not seek to Conquer Fear Seek to Master Love
Back to Top
For a while now, I have believed that I must pray for release from my fears. I have fears that I have been carrying with me for years. They are mostly related to relationships. They are irrational, and I know this because A Course in Miracles [ACIM] has taught me that all fear is unreal no matter how real it feels. However, they are part of my reality because I still believe in them. My main method to try to overcome them has been to pray that God somehow allows me to conquer them or that I be released from their effects.
I recently read a section in the ACIM text titled, "The Correction for Lack of Love". (OrEd.T.2.V) It has given me a whole new perspective on my approach to letting go of my fears. What it basically says is that fear is not something that we conquer. God does not know fear, so praying for release from it is the wrong approach. We must pray for the mastery of love. When I focus on my fears as the issue, I am continuing their effects by obsessing over them. When I pray for guidance in the mastery of love, I am getting to the real issue.
"92 You who constantly complain about fear still persist in creating it. I told you before that you cannot ask me to release you from fear because I know it does not exist, but you do not. If I merely intervened between your thoughts and their results, I would be tampering with a basic law of cause and effect, the most fundamental law there is in this world. I would hardly help if I depreciated the power of your own thinking. This would be in direct opposition to the purpose of this course. It is much more helpful to remind you that you do not guard your thoughts carefully except for a small part of the day and somewhat inconsistently even then. You may feel at this point that it would take a miracle to enable you to do this, which is perfectly true." (OrEd.T.2.92)
What is Jesus saying here? What I believe he is saying is that, first, it is not helpful to ask for release from fear. If I ask God to intervene between my thoughts and their results, this would be tampering with free will or the law of cause and effect. I have created my fear and am feeling its effects. It is not some illness in my mind that I have no control over. I am responsible for the effects. What I should ask for is the miracle, or miracle-mindedness focused on love and not the illusions I have created. What I need to do is guard my mind against insane thoughts by dismissing them immediately to make room for truth.
"Both miracles and fear come from thoughts, and if you were not free to choose one, you would also not be free to choose the other." (OrEd.T.2.94)
I have simply chosen to think about something from a fearful state of mind rather than from miracle-mindedness. It is a matter of training my mind as it is with the whole course. It is not that I am doing something wrong or not praying hard enough; it is merely that I have chosen to dwell on illusions rather than reality. I have chosen wrongly.
"It has already been said that man believes he cannot control fear because he himself created it. His belief in it seems to render it out of his control by definition. Yet any attempt to resolve the basic conflict through the concept of mastery of fear is meaningless. In fact it asserts the power of fear by the simple assumption that it need be mastered. The essential resolution rests entirely on the mastery of love. In the interim, the sense of conflict is inevitable since man has placed himself in a strangely illogical position. He believes in the power of what does not exist." (OrEd.T.2.97)
My praying for mastery of fear has been meaningless. This is why I have run into so many problems in my relationships.
I have ......

Questions Regarding the Teachings of ACIM
|
QUESTION: "Do I retain my ego after I die"?
ANSWER: First, let me point out that this is a loaded question, or more accurately, a statement masquerading as a question.
Another example of such a question is, "How did the separation occur?" This is really not a question. It is a statement of current belief in the form of a question intended to reinforce current belief. Because the separation never occurred, the question is irrelevant and renders it impossible to answer. There are three built-in erroneous assumptions in the originally stated question: a) that the ego at one time actually is, or was, real and actually existed, b) that we actually die, and c) that you have an individual or personal, ego. Before I attempt to answer what I believe to be the intended question, let us work backwards through the erroneous assumptions (premises) that render the question impossible to answer. Let's start with the idea of a personal or individual ego. Our commonly held concept of a personal ego is purely a Freudian idea, and most Course students already recognize that the Course uses a completely different explanation of the ego. In the Course version from the Foundation for Inner Peace, there is only one reference in the Course that refers to "my ego" ...it is contained in workbook lesson 82 which is a review of lesson 64. There is also only one reference to "your ego" in workbook lesson 38. edition search In contrast, there are 116 references to "the ego" in the text, 5 in the workbook, and 6 in the clarification of terms. However, in the Course in Miracles Society [CIMS] edition, the count is significantly different. "Your ego" has 44 references. "My ego" has 1 reference, and "the ego" has 153. Naturally this triggered inquiry into why each reference is used...'the ego', 'my ego' and 'your ego', and their implications. edition search Here are some key phrases from the CIMS edition that seem to support the conclusion I will present below.
"The essential thing to remember is that the ego does not recognize the real source of its perceived threat, and if you associate yourself with the ego, you do not perceive the whole situation as it is. Only your allegiance to it gives the ego any power over you." "We have spoken of the ego as if it were a separate thing acting on its own. This was necessary to persuade you that you cannot dismiss it lightly and must realize how much of your thinking is ego-directed." "The ego is nothing more than a part of your belief about yourselves." "The ratio of repression and dissociation varies with the individual ego-illusion..." "The rewards of God, however, are immediately recognized as eternal. Since this recognition is made by you and not the ego, the recognition itself establishes that you and your ego cannot be identical. You may believe that you have already accepted the difference, but you are by no means convinced as yet. The very fact that you are preoccupied with the idea of escaping from the ego shows this.
"You cannot escape from the ego by humbling it or controlling it or punishing it. Remember that the ego and the Soul do not know each other. The separated mind cannot maintain the separation except by dissociating. Having done this, it utilizes repression against all truly natural impulses, not because the ego is a separate thing, but because you want to believe that you are. The ego is a device for maintaining this belief, but it is still only your willingness to use the device that enables it to endure."
After careful study, I do not under any circumstances accept this as a contradiction in statement. I believe that these passages clearly demonstrate that there are no separate egos. The idea of my or your ego is erroneous, but these phrases are used by the Holy Spirit to demonstrate our belief, or temporary acceptance, of separate egos. Now, let's visit that silly 'death' idea. The Course states clearly, irrevocably, and unambiguously that "There is no death". That does not mean that we do not go through what we commonly refer to as 'a death experience'. What we are observing is 'the apparent end of animation' of the body. The Course, in the midst of a dissertation on anger says, "There is little doubt that one body can assault another, and can even destroy it. Yet if destruction itself is impossible, anything that is destructible cannot be real". We are, indeed, seeing the apparent end of the animation of the body, which WE have defined as death. What is actually occurring at that 'moment' is a transition in our experience of existence; from the mortal, and limited, to the immortal, infinite, and limitless. We will tie this idea in again later in the article. Further consider this from the Manual for Teachers".
"Teacher of God, your one assignment could be stated thus: accept no compromise in which death plays a part. Do not believe in cruelty nor let attack conceal the truth from you. What seems to die has but been misperceived and carried to illusion. Now it becomes your task to let the illusion be brought to the truth. Be steadfast but in this; be not deceived by the "reality" of any changing form. Truth neither moves nor wavers nor sinks down to death and dissolution. And what is the end of death? Nothing but this: the realization that the Son of God is guiltless now and forever. Nothing but this. But do not let yourself forget it is not less than this."
I am going to reiterate two ideas that are critical to.....

Guidance from Elder Brother"CHOICE after Death"As Received and Transcribed by Sun~Rose
|
TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You.
BROTHER: As I have been telling You, Mind, Consciousness, is everything, and so-called 'matter' simply follows mind's directions. This really is no news to You, as You are quite familiar with the words that keep coming to mind: "All is Infinite Mind and Its Infinite Manifestation." followed by the reason: "For God is All-in-All." And then, "Spirit is immortal Truth."1 Let Us stop there, staying with the Truth of these crucial words of a great revelation.
I am using the word 'revealed' rather than 'guided' for a reason: so that You clearly understand that what is called revelation is nothing new, but is simply Truth revealed to a willing consciousness. Hence the "little willingness" I ask from You All.2 Then follows the great happiness that comes from giving it, to which You can gladly attest.
'Even after so-called death, You can choose again for Life.' This fact answers Your question as to why "Life after Life" experiences - or near-death-experiences as they are also called - do not come to Every One. You know God has no favorites and that You All are the "belovd Son" and not just I.3 So why? And here is Your answer: The choice is always Yours. You can "choose again".4
Most of You just don't choose to, tired of the current dream, and looking forward to a new one. This state of mind is what keeps You wanting both dying and dreaming. They are not of God, they are of the ego.
What a lie are the pious words: "God took Her." "It was His time." For they are spoken of the Son of God Himself/Herself. I describe You this way, for most assuredly, the Son of God has no gender. Gender is another ego ploy to keep half of the Son of God in subjection, a concept that is unknown to Heaven.
As You can clearly see here, no good has come of the separation, known as "the fall" by Bible students. Yet do You all cling to it, convinced that it is reality, and only because You are addicted to dreaming; or, rather, to the 'power' that You think it gives You. True Equality is not pleasing to the Dreamer, who obviously, or subtly, considers His or Her own self the 'best'.
This may be hidden by what psychiatry calls a "poor self-image"; nonetheless, that is accompanied by the greatest rage that the Dreamer isn't recognized for His value. The only validity to this mental state is that - indeed - each One of You is priceless, both to God and to Each Other.
As You are willing to give this acknowledgement to first One, and then Another, and Another; then, finally, to All of Your Others, it becomes Yours as well. For You will not want to go Home alone, without All Your belovd Others. For this is how the Sonship is: truly One for All and All for One. Can You imagine now just how comforting that feeling is?
And when You understand this Love for All, then do You begin to understand why 'dying' is impossible to the Reality of Love. You would not wish it on an Other, could it then be of God? For God is only Life as well as Love.
So here they are quickly: chapter and verse later
1The scientific statement of Being from Science and Health, page 468.
2Jesus asks for "a little willingness" in A Course In Miracles
3This is what was heard after Brother's baptism by John the Baptist:
"This is My belovd Son in whom I am well pleased."

Reja Joy teaches Hatha Yoga from the perspective of A Course in Miracles and hosts several social media groups for those who share this journey. Rev. Reja Joy currently resides with her loving husband Chris Green in Omaha, NE.
*Reverend Nyki Dobson experienced a spiritual opening in 2002. She says her emotional pain got so severe that she became willing to be shown another way. At this time she heard a friend's tape of Marianne Williamson. In it she spoke about "the Peace of God" and kept referring to ACIM. Although it was an uncomfortable path of looking with Spirit at beLIEfs & concepts she stayed consistent at her willingness to see differently. Eventually, The Peace of God became her only goal. People that know her, say that she walks her talk. She continues to be vigilant about questioning her false perceptions. Those that have watched her transformation say that she is a different person than she was a decade ago. When asked about her transformation her husband said the change was indescribable. The differences are as strong as the difference between Chaos and Peace. He said that she had moved from a destabilizing energy to one that transmitted a calming feeling to those around her.

Presently all CIMS projects are wholly supported by free will gifts of time, talent, and money. If you would like to support any of the activities of the Society in any way, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Because of the international character of CIMS, the internet is our primary means of communicating and collaborating.
CIMS is a section 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and donations are tax deductible.
ALSO, by means of your will or other estate plan, you can name "Course in Miracles Society" as the beneficiary of a portion of your estate, or of particular assets in your estate. In this way, you are honoring your loved ones while also providing critical support to the extension of LOVE.
