We are inviting you to participate in  the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) 19th Annual National Solar Tour. As the Indiana ASES Chapter, the Indiana Renewable Energy Association (InREA) has a tour and an open house this year.

InREA is planning a brand new tour this year called the 2014 Indy East Solar Tour. Phil Teague with Rectify LLC who is a new member of the InREA Board is heading up a committee working on this solar tour right now.

Here are the details.

DATE: Saturday, October 4, 2014
TIME: 1:00 to 5:00 pm
PLACE: Englewood Christian Church, 57 N. Rural St., Indianapolis, IN 46201

Come to Englewood Christian Church to sign-in and receive information and a map to visit the homes on the solar tour plus see the installation on the church. Park your car in the parking lot and find some other people to carpool to the sites. Better yet bring your bicycle and helmet to pedal your way to visit the solar installations. Gee, doesn't that sound fun?

After the solar tour you might want to just stick around and try one of many delightful restaurants located in Historic Irvington. We will be happy to make some suggestions.

Here is a sneak preview of what you will see on the 2014 Indy East Solar Tour--

So what can you do to help?
  • volunteer to spread the word about the Indy East Solar Tour;
  • get your neighborhood association, school or group to become a sponsor;
  • volunteer to help at one of the solar home sites;
  • take photos to document the event;
  • help send out press releases and make follow-up phone calls to media.

It's easy really and both ASES and InREA can help you.

Want to help us update the Indiana Virtual Solar Tour?

Several years ago, InREA took the photos and information for more than a half dozen local solar tours that were conducted around the state of Indiana. We gathered information from solar tours held in
  • Indianapolis
  • NW Indiana
  • Evansville/SW Indiana
  • Michiana
  • Bloomington
  • Kokomo
  • Muncie
  • Lafayette
Since the original Indiana Virtual Solar Tour PowerPoint slide show was created in 2009, literally hundreds of new solar systems have been installed throughout the state of Indiana. Here are photos from just two of the many solar installations in Indianapolis made by possible by the Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) voluntary feed-in tariff (VFIT) called Rate REP. There are also several solar, wind and biomass projects in northern Indiana made possible by the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) FVIT. More about these installations in a future newsletter.
