Grant News & Tips, February 2013 |
|
Grant season is open! With the new year comes open application programs for many federal grants that benefit public safety agencies and first responders. Our staff has been hard at work telling you about the latest grants.
Law Enforcement, this is especially the time of year for you to sharpen your grant application pencils. More on that below, but suffice to say it's open season on grants for you. With so many programs offering funding, make sure your agency gets their hat in the ring for this year's round of public safety federal grants.
For the Fire Service, the application period for the Fire Prevention & Safety Grants recently closed. We'll keep you posted on developments with this competitive program. Also, many of your fellow firefighters said they wrote better AFG applications, thanks to our 2012 AFG Super Summit. We're looking to bring you another Super Summit this year. Learn more below.
2013 brings a lot of opportunity to get the better of your funding challenges. And we're here to help.
Sincerely,
Margaret Stark & Kurt Bradley

"Catered to Us, America's First Responders" National classes help you understand, apply for and win public safety grants
"I attended your Grant Writing for Public Safety course at Delta College in Michigan and was thrilled with the course and content. This summer I applied for a private foundation grant (National Emergency Medicine Association) to fund the purchase of law enforcement specific tactical trauma medical kits for our department. I'm thrilled to report that last month we were awarded nearly $10,000 to purchase 35 of the kits. I credit the success of my first professional grant writing effort to what I learned in your course." - Alexis Davis, Training Coordinator, Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, Michigan Next Grant Writing Training Class: Ft. 2013 AFG Super Summit
Do you want to take your best shot at applying for FY2013 Assistance to Firefighters Grants?
For the last 4 years, First Responder Grants has conducted an AFG Super Summit conference. This conference is attended by experienced Fire Act grant writers who have won at least one Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) award.
We use the summit as a "think tank" for some of the best fire grant writers in the fire service to come together. We brainstorm ideas and assist each other in developing new, better ideas to put forward for projects for that year's AFG program.
The group also has breakout sessions where attendees write their grant for the coming AFG application period. This gives us grant writer several opportunities to have their grant subjected to mock peer panel reviews. After these reviews, they can adjust and adapt their application to benefit from the feedback provided, prior to actual submission of their grant for the year.
Our typical success rate has been over 90% for those attending an AFG Super Summit. This is typically not a class about "writing" an AFG application; it is only open to attendance by those individuals who have won at least one AFG award. Price to attend is $350 each for the 2-day conference.
At the present time we are considering holding our 2013 AFG Super Summit in Waterford, MI (which is near Flint).
If you are interested in attending the Super Summit, please contact Kurt Bradley at kbradley@firstresp0opndergrants.com or (863) 551-9598 to add your name to the potential attendees list. There is no obligation. We will contact you after Mar. 1 with specifics on the Super Summit, and you can decide whether or not to register at that time.
By the way, it looks like FEMA won't open AFG for applications until May or June, so we are targeting April 15-30 for potential summit dates.
