Last Weekend's Stockton-Con Event Brings Thousands to Stockton Arena

The third annual Stockton-Con event took place August 9-10 and was even bigger and better this year. The local comic convention moved to the downtown Stockton Arena last year and expanded to a two-day weekend. Thousands participated and hundreds came in colorful, imaginative and original costumes depicting characters from popular comics and  movies.

The organizers invited many prominent personalities like comic book artists Bill Morrison and Tone Rodriguez or actor Danny Glover. This year's event raised funds for United Way and the St. Mary's Dining Room. (Click on the photo below to watch a video.)

Movies at the Point

The outdoor summer movie series was initiated by the city's Community Services Department last June and is only gaining popularity with local families. So far, these free events brought over 4,000 people to Weber Point on the downtown waterfront.

Still to come:
Friday, September 12: Monsters University

Friday, October 10: The Haunted Mansion (with Spooktacular Event & Trick-or-Treat Parade).

For more information, call (209) 937-8206.

Funds Are Available for Commercial
Facade Improvements in Stockton

The City of Stockton's Facade Improvement Program assists property owners in making exterior, cosmetic improvements (e.g., painting, awnings, new doors and windows) to commercial property. Funds are granted to eligible properties in the form of a loan, with a lien placed on the building, which is forgiven after five years on the condition the property is kept free of graffiti and blight.

Facade Improvement Forgivable Loans are available for commercial properties or nonprofit properties located in the Waterfront (Downtown Stockton), Midtown, North Stockton, and South Stockton Redevelopment Project Areas on a first come, first serve basis.
