          Message from your Presidents

Dear Crocker Families,

Fall is in full swing and the school year is settling into a nice routine.  We want to thank everyone who came out for the first PTA-sponsored parent education talk from the Girls Leadership Institute.  The turnout was terrific and the talk was very well-received.  We will have speakers from the Boys' Project presenting at November's meeting on November 8th.  We look forward to seeing everyone there!  Babysitting will be provided for Crocker school-aged kids, and all you need to do to get a spot for them is RSVP at president@crockerschool.org.

We also want to encourage everyone to come out and participate in the Walkathon this Saturday.  It is a terrific community event and just so fun to see the kids out there walking together.  This is an important fundraiser and a great opportunity for the kids to get involved.  Crocker is the stellar school that it is because of events like these - it is not just the money that is raised, but also the sense of community that is built.  We encourage everyone to find ways to get involved and contribute to the school - in the classroom, through events like the walkathon and the auction, and (of course) annual giving.  There really are chances that will fit in any schedule and budget.  Don't be shy - Crocker needs you!

Edna Brewer Evening

On Thursday, November 1st, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., we are having an "Edna Brewer Evening."  Sam Pasarow, the Edna Brewer principal, will come and give a brief presentation about Edna Brewer Middle School.  After his talk, some current Brewer/Crocker parents will be on a panel to share their experiences, as well as answer questions regarding Edna Brewer Middle School from a parent perspective.  This is for parents/guardians who want to hear more about Brewer.  (We will set up different events for our current 5th grade students, including a walking tour and a visit with Brewer students.)
Coffee with the Principal

On Friday, November 2, we are having our first, "Coffee with the Principal."  It's set up as a general Q&A and it will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room, beginning at 8:45 a.m.  Bring your questions and I will do my best to answer them!

Tour Guides Still Needed

School tours will begin next month and we still need a few more tour guides!  You don't have to have all the answers about Crocker, just an appreciation for a great public school and some general knowledge of how to get from place to place in the building. The prospective families won't know if you get lost, you just say, "Oh, I meant to show you the old computer lab, now drum den!"  You might even learn some new things or find some new spaces around the school!  After the tour, guides will bring the groups back to the MPR for a general Q&A with the principal and Kindergarten teachers. If the tour guides can stick around, prospective parents also appreciate hearing from current Crocker parents. The tours are currently scheduled for 11/13, 11/16, 11/28, 12/6, 12/7, 12/14, and 1/8 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. The Q&A is generally from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.  We need 4 tour guides per date. The link to sign up is below. Thank you in advance for your help!

Math Night at Crocker

Crocker Highlands is again teaming up with the Lawrence Hall of Science to host the Math Around the World Festival.  The event will take place on Thursday, November 15, in the multipurpose room from 6:00 to 7:50 p.m.  It is a free flowing program so you can visit anytime during that time.  This is an evening event for parents and school age children to attend a math night together so please do not send children to attend on their own.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Volunteers will be needed to run each of the 12 math stations.

If you are interested in volunteering for this fun event, please contact Jan Butler at jan.butler@hotmail.com
