This national holiday kicked off on Mon. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we highlighted a Grand Success (Felix Sanchez) and a multigenerational family that stays connected to their relatives in Mexico. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook, where we continue to highlight intergenerational programs and stories by and about people of Spanish origin. Follow #HispanicHeritageMonth and share how your program celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors are from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

GIA's Community AGEnda to Launch GREAT PLACES

GREAT PLACES, which will be produced by Grantmakers In Aging's Community AGEnda, will be a free quarterly e-newsletter devoted to sharing the news, events, resources, scholarship and images that capture the story of the age-friendly movement. ZERO TO THREE's Journal Get's a New Design

This month's issue of Zero to Three is a special one, thanks to what it's calling a "contemporary new look." The journal's upgraded to a "full color, readable, engaging format" that, for September, focuses on the work of the federally-funded National Quality Improvement Center on Early Childhood (QIC-EC). The QIC-EC supported four research and demonstration projects that tested new approaches to preventing abuse and mistreatment of very young children. Learn more

ACL Announces Awardees for the 2014 Lifespan Respite Care Program

Last week, the Administration for Community Living announced awards totaling $2,023,646 to 17 states to further implement the requirements of the Lifespan Respite Care Act of 2006. Lifespan Respite Care Programs are coordinated systems of accessible, community-based respite care services for family caregivers of children or adults with special needs. Learn more

Penn State Extension Program Welcomes Heather Greenwood 

Heather Greenwood, a Visiting Extension Associate from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, joins the Penn State Extension program. Greenwood, whose expertise is in aging and intergenerational programs, will work on a series of Extension/outreach education initiatives in conjunction with the Penn State Intergenerational Program and the Penn State Center for Healthy Aging. 

New Book Helps Families Make Room -Physically, Emotionally, and Financially - for an Elderly Parent

David Horgan and Shira Block released their book, When Your Parents Move In (Adams Media, 2009), to help family members deal with the far-reaching implications such a move can have on every aspect of a family's life. Learn more

Campus Kitchen Launch Grants. The Campus Kitchens Project, a national non-profit that empowers student leaders to create innovative and sustainable solutions to hunger, has numerous funding options and grant opportunities available to schools across the country to help with the planning and implementation of a Campus Kitchen. Whole Kids Foundation: School Garden Grant Program. Whole Kids Foundation is providing $2,000 grants to schools and nonprofit organizations working at schools in the U.S. and Canada with new or existing garden projects at any stage of development - planning, construction, or operation, that help children engage with fresh fruits and vegetables.
