Deb Savitt

Each month JFCS strives to offer interesting and meaningful opportunities for you to engage, both in agency activities and in other important causes in our community. This month we are excited about a new partnership supporting a cause that is near and dear to so many of us: breast cancer awareness. I invite you to help with Hope Chest's Fillies Race for Hope coming up this Sunday. Check out the details below and lend a hand if you can. If you do volunteer, please mention you are from JFCS!

If you have a special cause you would like us to consider supporting, I'd love to hear from you! Contact me at [email protected] or 952-542-4859.

If your interest is in volunteering as a family, please take a quick 5-minute survey to tell me about your family and interests. Click here. Everyone who completes the survey will be eligible to win a $10 Caribou Gift Card!

Enjoy the fleeting days of summer while you enhance our community.

JFCS is partnering with Hope Chest for Breast Cancer for a day of live thoroughbred and quarter horse racing in honor of breast cancer awareness. The event includes a silent auction, salute to survivors, horseshoes for hope, VIP pink buffet and more!

Help is especially needed for afternoon and evening shifts to work on set-up, clean-up, silent auction, check-in, or selling raffle tickets and derby hats.

To volunteer or for more information contact Michelle at [email protected] or 952-471-8700 ext. 19. Please mention you're with JFCS!

Help kids be Back-to-School ready

Many families who participate in JFCS programs are unable to provide basic school supplies for their children. When you go school supply shopping with your family, please consider grabbing a few extra notebooks or pencils while filling your own list! It can be a fun activity for you and your kids. Then just drop them at the JFCS reception desk during office hours. We'll make sure supplies reach families in need. For a list of items needed, please read our blog post.

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is also helping provide school supplies. Their program helps more than 14,000 kids in need in the Minneapolis Public Schools. Volunteers (ages 8 and older) are needed in the warehouse on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 21 and 22 to help pack supplies and make deliveries of backpacks to the schools during the last week of August. To volunteer for the NCJW program, click here.

Be a Lunch Buddy in St. Louis Park

Lunch Buddies
Provide structure and companionship for a child. School children in St. Louis Park eagerly anticipate the day their Lunch Buddy joins them for lunch.

Spend just 45 minutes once a week enjoying the friendship of a child and being a positive role model. The children greatly benefit from time spent with JFCS' caring volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a Lunch Buddy, contact Debra Savitt, Community Involvement Manager, at [email protected] or 952-542-4859.

Make baby blankets for newborns

Fleece blanket

Cuddle up to this volunteer opportunity! Make and donate blankets for newborn babies!

If you knit, crochet, sew or tie fleece blankets, please consider creating and donating. In mid-September we are hosting a community baby shower and we would love to have a new blanket for each teeny, tiny guest.

Finished blankets can be dropped off at the JFCS office in Minnetonka. If you have questions, contact Debbie Wolfe, PJ Library Coordinator, at  [email protected] or 952-417-2139.

Special Events help needed

Volunteer
JFCS clients enjoy celebrating Chanukah and Passover at special event get-togethers. These parties are often the only opportunities to come together as a community to celebrate the Jewish holidays. Responsibilities may include planning, set-up, decorating, or driving clients to and from the event. If you are interested, contact Stacey Spencer, Coordinator of Client and Volunteer Events,
at [email protected] or 952-542-4845.

Thanks Puppy Parade Volunteers!
