The Globe and Mail ran a piece last week on 'The scientists who matter most' which describes a recent compilation of highly-cited scientists from countries around the world. Canada has quite a lot of them, and ranks sixth in the world: we are behind the USA, UK, Germany, China and Japan, but ahead of the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.  In relation to population, we are at a level with other small industrialized countries such as Sweden, Australia and Belgium.  Nevertheless, the Globe article expresses the feeling that we could do better.
