Join the Birmingham Historical Museum Board

The Museum Board is looking to fill a vacancy on its board, and is seeking an individual with both business and cultural interests to assist with the fulfillment of its duties. The Museum Board is an advisory board that is appointed by the city commission. It meets ten times a year on the first Thursday of the month at the museum, except the months of July and December.  Board members must be residents of Birmingham.  They work as a full board and also on committees to help the Birmingham Historical Museum and Park develop and grow as an important local cultural institution.  This includes roles in fundraising and promotion of the museum, its exhibits, and its collection. They coordinate their activities with the Friends of the Birmingham Historical Museum & Park (formerly the Birmingham Historical Society), which is a 501c3 organization that supports the museum with volunteers, and smaller grass roots fund raising events. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to help provide advisory board-level support to the museum and be part of its future success. For more information, contact the City Clerk's office at (248) 530-1800.

End of Summer Garden Fun at the Historical Museum

On Saturday, September 13th, the Birmingham Historical Museum & Park will feature the Hunter House Harvest, an outdoor kid-friendly family program with fun and educational hands-on activities and games. We will talk about what settlers of Birmingham grew in their gardens, learn how to identify edible herbs and mischievous garden pests, plant some seeds, and see what yummy foods we can prepare from the garden. The program is FREE and includes admission to the Museum for all attendees. We will also be giving away GMO-free Gro-ables seed pods of herbs and veggies so you can start your own garden next spring! The program begins at 11:30am. Our monthly Young Singer-Songwriter Saturday performance will start at 1:30pm. All children MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Don't forget to check out our current exhibit, Sounds of Birmingham! Regular museum hours are 1 PM to 4 PM on Wednesday through Saturday. Second Thursday hours are 1 PM to 8 PM. Admission is $7 for adults; $5 for seniors and students. Children under 5 are free. 2 hours free parking is available at the Chester Street Deck.
