            UNSW CBA Hackathon 2014

What is the UNSW CBA Hackathon all about?

Miss the Information night?

Its not too late to register for the main event here http://conta.cc/1uLhz4D

Are you a technical genius, a creative talent or a great business mind? All of the above?

As part of its ongoing commitment to education, CommBank is sponsoring a Hackathon, run by New South Innovations and AWI Ventures, at UNSW. Elance-oDesk are also a sponsor of the event. During the Hackathon, UNSW students will be invited to develop innovative solutions based on CommBank’s latest small business platforms to enhance the retail experience.

Your innovative ideas, teamwork and ability to work under pressure could be the perfect recipe for the next amazing app for young people who like to shop without carrying cash or for small business owners who wish they could accept payments from their customers in more flexible ways. Your app could even become an innovation that completely changes the way Australians do their shopping!

This is your chance - regardless of what faculty or degree you study - to become part of a new team, to come up with exciting ideas, to prove those ideas are valuable and then attempt to build a new amazing app - all within 2½ days!!

Did somebody say PRIZES???

Be in the running to share $7,500 in cash prizes including $5000 for the winning team, mentoring opportunities with executives from Australia’s largest and most innovative bank and specialised guidance from AWI Ventures, Australia’s only Fintech startup accelerator.

The UNSW CBA Hackathon is open to all UNSW students and recent graduates. Hosted by NewSouth Innovations, it will take place during the mid-semester break at the UNSW Business School’s recently commissioned, state of the art, flipped classrooms, "The Place".

                                     The Challenge

“To offer customers a more enriching experience”

Using CommBank’s open retail business platform Pi and portable point-of-sale devices Albert and Leo, and/or CommBank’s eCommerce BPOINT solution, develop a solution that will improve the integrated online and in-store retail experience.

The winning team will need to identify an opportunity in the retail landscape, and develop a solution that enhances customer relationships.

The product submissions can be a real workable app, clickable demo or designs. More points will be awarded for the demo that solves the omnichannel challenge and most closely reflects the end product that will run on one or more of CommBank’s solutions.

A judging panel of experienced mentors from CommBank, UNSW and AWI Ventures will determine the winning solution.

                                      How it works

Teams of five or less will form to work up an app idea or integrated solution over 2½ days.

Representatives from Commonwealth Bank will be on hand to provide information and guidance on CommBank’s products.

On the final day, each team will be given 3-4 minutes to present their app idea to a panel of judges.

Submitted app ideas are the participants’ Intellectual Property (IP).

Entrants will need to bring their own laptops or tablets to work on.
