The August Del Ray Business Association (DRBA) monthly lunch will feature an update on the Oakville Triangle/Route 1 Corridor planning effort from StonebridgeCarras principal Doug Firstenberg and Land, Carroll & Blair PC's Duncan Blair (Mon. 8/18 at 11:30 AM, Rosemarino d'Italia, 1905 Mt. Vernon Ave., more information).    

 

The fifth Oakville Triangle and Route 1 Corridor Advisory Group meeting will feature a presentation and discussion of draft guidelines and principles (Mon. 8/18, 7:00 PM, Mt. Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave).

 

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host their monthly Small Business Roundtable, where the topic of discussion will be "Make the Most of Your Professional Advisors- Attorneys" (Tues. 8/19, noon, AEDP/SBDC Offices, 625 N. Washington St, Suite 400).

 

The Alexandria Veterans Business Enterprise Center (AVBEC) is holding its second veterans networking event of 2014.  Veteran-owned businesses are encouraged to attend as well as join the AVBEC!

 

Capital One is sponsoring a program, in coordination with George Mason University, titled "The Washington Area Economy: A Mid-Year Review and Early Forecast for 2015." The program will feature Stephen S. Fuller, Ph.D., Director of George Mason University's Center for Regional Analysis (Thurs. 8/21, 8:15 - 9:30 AM, Capital One Bank Auditorium, 1680 Capital One Drive, McLean, registration required).

 

The City will celebrate the opening of the first segment of the Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway this week with a ribbon cutting.  Together with Arlington County and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the City of Alexandria will introduce Metroway, the first bus rapid transit system in the region. Metroway's branded blue busses will run 7 days a week from Braddock Road Metrorail station to Crystal City Metrorail Station (Sat. 8/23, 9:30 AM, intersection of Route 1 and Swann Avenue, more information).
