 Kids In The Kitchen!

Instead of making gingerbread houses, turn ice cream cones into Christmas trees! Turn cones upside down, slather icing or frosting on the outside, and use ANY toppings to decorate! Try: sprinkles, M&M's, coconut, or Skittles!

After making a life size snow man outdoors, go inside to make an edible one! It's easy! Place 1 or 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream in a bowl. Use chocolate chips for buttons, use red licorice for arms. Decorate a marshmallow for the face, and top it all off with a cherry!

Imagination Library Early Learning!

Last month's book for age 2: Rhymes Round the World
 Written by: Kay Chorao

Extend your child's learning with Alaska's Early Learning Guidelines and with the Five Areas of Child Development!

(1) Physical Health, Well-Being, & Movement Skills

(2) Social and Emotional Development

(3) Approaches to Learning

(4) Thinking Abilities & General Knowledge and

(5) Communication, Language and Literacy!

Movement: If there's movement in the rhyme, act it out!
Social emotional: Look at the cover of the book together. Ask your child "What are the children doing? What do you think this book might be about? Why?"
Try setting the mood for a poem: with the poem "Hot Chocolate," you can serve some hot chocolate!
Create: If you and your child have a favorite poem, try drawing a picture as if it were a page in the book.
Communicate: Relate what's happening to things your child might be familiar with, and talk about the cultural traditions portrayed. "How are they the same/different as what we do?"
