RAIL TRANSIT AT THE AIRPORT

One of the major stops along Honolulu's rail transit system will be the Honolulu International Airport station.

The station will be located between the International and Overseas parking garages near the lei stands and is scheduled to be completed in 2017.

It will feature walkways to the parking garages and terminals, as well as connections for people who work at the airport to the many employment centers there.

The Honolulu International Airport station will reliably connect residents and visitors to one of the busiest airports in the nation. It's estimated that more than 15,000 passengers will catch the train at the airport station every day.

The train ride to the airport from the Downtown rail station at Nimitz and Bishop Streets will be a mere 12 minutes, as will the ride from the Pearl Highlands rail station.  In just 16 minutes, passengers at the airport will reach the Ala Moana Center station, where circulator buses will be available for those passengers whose final destination will be Waikiki.

HART plans to schedule a meeting next month to receive community input on the design of the airport station.  Watch for details in an upcoming eBlast.

 AIRPORT AREA TOD COMMUNITY

 WORKSHOP PLANNED

Community members are invited to participate next week in the planning of transit-oriented development                                                 surrounding the rail stations in the airport area.

The Aliamanu Elementary School Cafeteria will be the site of the first community workshop for the city's Airport Area Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Plan.

The meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, July 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Airport Area TOD Plan is focused on the areas around the rail stations planned at Pearl Harbor Naval Base (Radford Drive), Honolulu International Airport, and Lagoon Drive.

This neighborhood embodies a broad mix of industrial, commercial, military and residential uses, and it serves as the gateway to the island for arriving air travelers. Planning for these areas will address local issues related to land use, circulation, infrastructure, and community character.

Join your neighbors and share your ideas for future public and private investment in the neighborhood.

See you there.
