New Testament Professor Candidates On Campus - Today, February 4 |
Dr. Katherine Shaner, a candidate for the position of New Testament Professor, will be visiting campus today. You should have already received her CV via divsocial.
  • All are invited to attend her lecture in Wingate 302 at 11:00am.
  • She will also be in the Lower Auditorium at 1:30pm to meet with students. 

All who are able are encouraged to attend the lecture at 11am and come with your questions for her at 1:30pm. 

 

 

United Methodist Representatives to Visit School of DivinityOn Tuesday, February 5, Kim Ingram and Sally Queen from the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church will visit the Div School and have time to meet with students who are United Methodist or who are interested in serving in the United Methodist Church. They will be in chapel and community lunch, and then have times in the afternoon to meet with students individually. If you are interested in conversation with our guests about serving in the UMC, please contact Chris Copeland ([email protected]) and he will set up a meeting.

GPC is a traditional congregation with a deep desire to hear and respond to God's word in new and innovative ways. Our pastor is a beloved minister who has served our congregation for 9 years. Patrick Johnson interviewed black gay men who were born, raised, and live in the South. An Evening with Former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbit - Thursday, February 7, 7:00pm - Kulynych Auditorium at the Welcome Center | Join the WFU Center for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability (CEES) for an evening with former Secretary of the Interior, Bruce Babbitt.  His lecture, "Land use, prosperity, and the future of wild places" will be held Thursday, February 7th at 7:00pm in the Kulynych Auditorium at the Byrum Welcome Center. Mr. Babbitt was nominated by President Clinton in 1993 to serve as Secretary of the Interior.  While in this position, he focused not only on environmental protection, but also on restoration.  Babbitt helped to shape policies for old growth forests in the Pacific Northwest, preserved desert landscapes in California, sought to protect headwaters and their surrounding forests, and began the work of restoring the Everglades in Florida.  Babbitt also revitalized the Endangered Species Act, and personally brought the first wolf back into Yellowstone National Park to begin reintroduction of the species to the park.
 
 
Parading Toward Equality: A Talk by Dr. Katherine Bruce - Friday, February 8, 3:30-4:30pm - Carswell Hall, Room 208 | Every year, over six million people participate in 110 LGBT Pride parades across the United States. Drawing on interviews and fieldwork at six parades, from the 15-minute march in Fargo, ND, to New York City's 5-hour parade, Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology Katherine Bruce will show how these events work to bring about greater cultural equality, with implications for how scholars understand the work of social movements.

Call for Papers and Presentations
  

On April 20th the Wake Forest Hunger Board will hold a Food Justice Summit to promote awareness of and advocacy for food justice issues in Winston-Salem and the greater North Carolina area.

 

The Hunger Board is accepting proposals for presentations based on both research and outreach addressing hunger and food insecurity. Proposals are welcome from practitioners, faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates from across all disciplines and areas of practice, especially those that demonstrate innovative ideas and methods of action.

 

Proposals are due by February 22nd and should be a maximum of 300 words. Contact Brittany Forniotis at [email protected] with questions and submissions.  Decisions will be made by March 6th and selected proposals will be notified shortly thereafter.

Pamela Cooper-White, Ph.D. is Ben G. and Nancye Clapp Gautier Professor of Pastoral Theology, Care and Counseling at Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA, and Co-Director of the Atlanta Theological Association's Th.D. program in Pastoral Counseling, will be at the School of Divinity on February 22, 2013.
