Greetings!

Soiree, Andover -  Tips for shopping local
Come celebrate the Shop Small™ movement with us on Saturday, November 24th.
Over the past months during the election campaigns, we all learned one important thing...small businesses are the heart of our local communities and it takes each one of us to help keep them growing strong. So rally your friends, come on downtown and help make a difference in your community.

5 fun tips to keep your community growing stronger than ever!

  1. Create jobs where you live: Shopping local creates more jobs where you live (even your kids will most likely look for part-time work in the local area). Need to buy something? Check to see if the businesses in your town have what you need first before going to the mall or online. Enrich your downtown, make friends with the store owners and you'll be creating more jobs without even trying.
  2. Create support for local schools and non-profits: Local businesses are often owned by local people who support the community and the non-profit organizations in that community, including the local schools. Tell your kids about your plan to shop local and educate them on the power of Community. Get them involved!
  3. Create what you need in your town: By getting to know your local business owners and creating good relationships with them, means that you may be able to make suggestions on what items are popular or needed in your town.  Small business owners rely heavily on customer feedback.  Help them by giving focused and positive information.
  4. Create a vibrant atmosphere: Small businesses create character and bring unique qualities to communities. Look at your own downtown. Isn't this why you moved here? Shopping and staying downtown keeps the vibrancy and community spirit alive that everyone looks for.  Suggest doing fun things in your community that bring more people to it...an annual fair for example!
  5. Create a clean environment: Shopping in your downtown reduces pollution. Having a walkable downtown that has what you need reduces your carbon footprint, saves you gas which will save you money too! Stay as close to home as possible and be creative in making your shopping list, keeping the stores you have in your community in the forefront of your mind.
