Call for Papers: Student Symposium on Gender-Related Issues


On Monday, March 4, Wake Forest University will host its second annual student research symposium on gender and sexuality, featuring moderated sessions of scholarly and creative presentations by Wake Forest students. This event will showcase the exciting work that our undergraduates and graduate students are doing on gender-related issues across disciplines. 
 
The symposium will take place the day before the Phyllis Trible Lecture Series (March 5-6), which will feature four internationally renowned feminist scholars. We invite papers on the past, present, and/or future of feminism in relation to: gender and religion, gender and politics/law, gender and the arts, feminist activism, history of feminism, sexuality and visual culture, LGBTQ communities and rights, women and poverty, women and business, and women and science/medicine. 
 
Proposals involving poster sessions, creative exhibits, performances, and video clips are also welcome. For complete details on how to submit paper abstracts and information, click here. Deadline for submissions is January 31, 2013.

Secrest Artists Series-Venice Orchestra - Thursday, January 24, 7:30pm - Scales Fine Arts Center, Brendle Recital HallSecrest presents the fourth event of the 2012/13 season with a performance by the Venice Baroque Orchestra.  This stellar ensemble has an international reputation, distinguished radio and television appearances, and is devoted to period instrument performance.  Included in their program will be pieces by Handel, Veracini, Geminiani, and Vivaldi.  Accompanying the performance will be the Secrest Signature pre-performance talk given by Peter Kairoff in Room 208, adjacent to the Brendle lobby.  Tickets are free to WFU faculty, staff, and students and can be obtained by calling the number above or from the Benson Ticket Office or University Theater Box Office. For more information: Call 758-5757 or visit: www.venicebaroqueorchestra.it/.

Pamela Cooper-White, Ph.D. is Ben G. and Nancye Clapp Gautier Professor of Pastoral Theology, Care and Counseling at Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA, and Co-Director of the Atlanta Theological Association's Th.D. program in Pastoral Counseling, will be at the School of Divinity on February 22, 2013.
