North Brothers Ford 5K/Mayors Mile - The Westland Buddy Up program will join North Brothers Ford in a 5K/Mayors Mile fun run/walk on Saturday, May 17. Runners must have pre-register by Saturday, May 10 to participate.  Race Day check-in starts at 8:00 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.  The event will take place at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.  All the proceeds from the event will go to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute for Cancer Research.

 

Zumbathon - There will be a Zumbathon on Saturday, May 17 starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Friendship Center, located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.  The cost is $10 and all of the proceeds with go towards typhoon relief.  This is a great opportunity to get some exercise, have some fun and help out a great cause.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

-The Westland Disability Concerns Committee will meet on Monday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Friendship Center, located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

-There will be a meeting of the Westland City Council on Monday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers of Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-The Westland Housing Commission will meet on Tuesday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.

 

Superhero Cookies at the Library - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will have cookie decorating on Tuesday, May 20 at 6:00 p.m.  Attendees will have the opportunity to change their simple ginger bread cookies into their favorite superheros.  If you are interested in attending, you can pre-register at the Youth Services Desk or by calling (734)326-6123. 

 

Memorial Day Parade - The Wayne-Westland Veterans Parade Council has an exciting parade planned to honor our veterans.  The event will be Sunday, May 25 starting at 1:00 p.m.  The parade will start at Town N Country Lanes, located at 1100 S. Wayne Rd and will head south down Wayne Rd.  There will be a small ceremony held at the bridge in front of the Wayne Library.

 

Blood Pressure/ Glucose Screening-   Every Thursday there will be blood pressure/ glucose screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh rd. For more information contact 734-722-7628.
