Imam Rauf and Daisy Khan to receive 2014 Faith-in-Action Award from International Center for Religion & Diplomacy
New York, NY - May 22, 2014 - The Cordoba Initiative, a multi-national, multi-faith organization dedicated to improving Muslim-West relations, announced today that its chairman, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, and Daisy Khan, Executive Director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement, will be presented with the 2014 Faith-in-Action Award by the International Center for Religion & Diplomacy (ICRD).
Imam Rauf and Ms. Khan are being honored on May 30 by ICRD for their pioneering efforts in promoting peace, understanding and cooperation among people of all faiths, particularly between Islam and the West. The special guest speaker will be Robert C. McFarlane, former U.S. National Security Advisor, and the keynote speaker will be the Honorable Michael J. Rogers, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Tickets may be purchased at www.icrd.org.
ICRD's annual Faith-in-Action Award Dinner pays tribute to exceptional individuals who advance human rights and religious reconciliation around the world. The mission of the non-profit is to prevent or resolve ethnic, tribal, and other identity-based conflicts that exceed the reach of traditional diplomacy by incorporating religious considerations into the solution.
"I am exceedingly pleased that we are able to honor Feisal and Daisy for their separate, but related, efforts to promote interfaith understanding and cooperation around the world. Their unique bridge-building work is a source of inspiration and encouragement to peacemakers everywhere," said Dr. Douglas Johnston, founder and president of ICRD.
The Cordoba Initiative is a non-state actor, partnering with state and non-state actors, in helping solve conflicts where religion, and specifically Islam, is viewed as a contributing factor. Its major projects include The Cordoba House Project, which is designed to help nurture an American Muslim Identity and advance the universal values found amongst religious beliefs. Its programs will be designed to powerfully attract and gather a broad coalition of moderates of all faiths to identify ways to combat the downward spiral of fear and mistrust that is fueling extremism on all sides. The dream is to have a Cordoba House in every nation where religious tensions exist.
